They changed the default hold power function to be a shortcut to Assistant, and this seems to be recommended on not just their Pixels, but other OEMs phones
I have to help non-tech people learn how to turn off their phone??? After they hijacked the default behavior from decades of hardware technology UX to juice their nonfunctional over engineered NLP voice timer?????
@LiquidParasyte I consider myself a tech person and it took me quite a while just now to figure out how to turn off my Android phone.
@npdoty @LiquidParasyte The worst is that I disable it every time I set up a new phone (Settings | System | Gestures), so my first reaction was "works for me". So the googlers designing this don't even have to experience the pain.

@LiquidParasyte it’s all just really getting over the top. and it seems to me that breaking up monopolies is the only cure.
