uncompressed version with too much text to fit in the alt text field, sorry

I hope you enjoyed my attempt to compress 1500 words about what I learned from skimming the patch into 280 characters, that was hellish, it's really hard not to sound like an LLM when you do this

PHP is a million or so lines of C code that pervasively used alloc functions that longjmp() on failure, so OOM bailout creates corrupted state. the fix uses fallible allocs and a global please-return-early OOM flag but requires touching Everything. completeness is impossible 😰😰😰

the PHP security bug patch is a nightmare, our server is patched but this thing looks more like a desperate attempt to patch hundreds of different leaks than a straightforward single bugfix, I do not trust that this is over…

visiting our beloved Mirror's Edge zone

Is there anything more beautiful in the world than the way the sunlight scatters through the leaves of a tree on a cool summer's day?

色んな事, this is the fundamental beauty of the world to us

dear open source project developers, did you know that you can use ninja with MSVC. it's actually very easy to pass the -G Ninja flag and then the build can actually utilise all the available CPU cores and display a running progress report too 😭

ah welp, there are actually a very small number of them that expire in 2026 or 2027, i hope none of them are necessary…

i will Always simp for the good enough 20-years-old video or audio format that Just Works and man is h.264 that

I'm going to get stronger because I have a dream, not for anyone else.

hi there.

on 2016-11-07 i was inspired to create this pair of diagrams, and posted them to my then twitter account. the tweet is long gone, but they must have struck a chord with some people, because the diagrams have long outlived it! i guess they're as relevant today as they were then.

so let me repost them here, in never-before-published high resolution.

if you care about copyright, you can attribute these with:

and ideally, please link to this post's canonical url (begins with social.noyu.me), but i don't care that much
