Good ol' Deutsche Bahn. First train got delayed more and more until it got cancelled. Next train, although on the way, is delayed by an hour already. So now I'm missing the night train. Luckily I booked the earlier of the 2 night train options so I'll probably be fine with the second option, but damn...
Yesterday I attended the Dutch Climate March 2026. Of course I had an amazing time like always but it did make me wonder.
There were 40k people, in 2023 there were 83k. Where did all those people go? Do they think the problem has been solved since then? In a country of 18m people, why do only so few show up after a summer where Europe (and the rest of the world) burned yet again?
Recently after kernel upgrades my desktop PC started complaining about some USB device failing to probe, delaying my machine to boot by like a minute.
I just figured out why this is happening: the MediaTek chip responsible for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on my motherboard recently got kernel support (I just dealt without those features) but it's missing the required Bluetooth firmware.

Thanks MediaTek for having proprietary firmware and not uploading it 😒
I love the German train network. ICE was 15 minutes late at my station, then stood still for 01:30 with basically no info just before the next stop in Germany and we've arrived 01:45 late in Cologne.
Well, at least these seats are _really_ comfy and there is an outlet per seat to charge everything I suppose...
I'll be at FrOSCon tomorrow for the first time ever, taking the train this evening! Of course I'll probably be manning the postmarketOS stand all day so come by and say hi!
I'm just hoping not everything will be in German, the majority of talks definitely are 😅
2 weeks ago I gave a talk about postmarketOS at the spring NLUUG (Netherlands Unix Users Group) conference.
It's in English so should be accessible to all!

#FSF announces the #LibrePhone project, and sadly it's disappointing. While the intention to reverse engineer proprietary firmware is applaudable, going with Android for this and thus interfacing with the downstream kernel is a waste of time.
What good is software freedom when you're still relying on the goodwill and development of a big tech company.
#Android is dead in the water and it's time people caring about software freedom and privacy realize this.
Today I'm giving a presentation about #postmarketOS at the #NLLGG (Dutch LUG). I did one in 2019 when our project was just 2 years old, it's about time for an update!
@ramzypro Sorry my server was down for a bit a while ago (I'm selfhosting Mastodon) so it might have been lost there.
Hey @musicbrainz, have you ever considered redesigning the website? It looks so incredibly dated to the point I find it extremely hard to use.
I just tried to submit a track I bought from Beatports and does not seem to be in the MusicBrainz database but I have no idea if I did it right and so far it's not appearing in Picard.
I feel like a fresh look for the website would solve a lot of usability issues!
Some madlad has gotten the latest #Mono working, completely #bootstrapped from source (no pre-compiled binaries present anywhere in the process).
https://issues.guix.gnu.org/74609
What an achievement! In my opinion every package/toolchain/programming language should be able to be bootstrapped like this, but developers are definitely making this harder than necessary.
Please someone package this for #AlpineLinux!
Since my last blog post describing how I started daily driving #PlasmaMobile has gotten quite a bit of attention, I decided to give a talk about my experiences with it at this year's #Akademy2024!
https://conf.kde.org/event/6/contributions/225/
Day 2, come and watch!
It's been almost 5 years but I've written a new blog post again! This time describing my setup for daily driving #PlasmaMobile on #postmarketOS after a bit more than a week of using it.
https://fam-ribbers.com/blog/2024-05-05-daily-driving-plasma-mobile/
I finally decided to get a proper second device to run #postmarketOS on, so I bought a Pixel 3A! Fully mainline and #PlasmaMobile is very fluent on it, it's great!
I'll keep my sim-card in my Android phone for now but I'll use it to browse the fediverse (#Tokodon), watch YouTube (#Plasmatube), browse the web (#Angelfish), chat on Matrix (#Neochat), etc. I'll probably find a ton of bugs, so let's get these reported and fixed!
And of course, #Plasma also runs great with #systemd on #postmarketOS! Just got this running a few minutes ago.
Yesterday I finally clicked the merge button and since it's now fully built: #postmarketOS edge now ships #Plasma6!
Please give it a shot and report any problems, initial testing shows everything works fine but I'm sure I missed something somewhere.
@z3ntu is doing a great talk together with @agnes007 about #Fairphone on the mainstage at #FOSDEM2024!
In the spirit of nightly images, I've also built #postmarketOS #Plasma6 rc1 images for a few devices (and will do rc2 next week)!
You can get them from https://nightly.postmarketos.org/plasma-mobile/images/rc1/, install them like you do for any prebuilt image for that device (instructions are in the wiki).
Did you know #postmarketOS has been shipping nightly built #Plasma6 packages for a while now? It has been useful so far for #plasma developers to develop and make #PlasmaMobile Qt6 ready, but it's also a great way for more experienced users to help test out KDE and catch bugs early!
Details to enable it for yourself can be found at https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Nightly
WARNING: only for experienced users, things can break any day!
