I used to think that queer acceptance was mostly about things like marriage equality
Now I think it’s about how Chinese aunties and uncles here don’t skip a beat or care about your sexual orientation when they’re being nosy about your life, and go straight into ‘okay but what does your wife do? How did you meet? Are you planning to have kids? I heard about this thing called IVF have you considered it? Lots of my friends have gay kids too they all got IVF’

@skinnylatte it reminds me of a time when an ex cousin of mine was trying to set up a gay friend, whom she had not understood was gay, with a girlfriend of hers.
This must’ve been about 1992.
He explained that he wasn’t really interested in women, and without missing a beat, she said “oh I have a wonderful man to introduced you.“
It wasn’t awkward. He felt so included.

@Shunra the Indonesian owner of a coffee shop near me was telling me he scared this Chinese immigrant lesbian by saying he wanted to introduce her to his child… a woman (he had to later specify)

@skinnylatte Never get between an Asian auntie and the "when are you having children" question. :) In my case Indian aunties. :) Nothing is too personal or out of bounds. <g>
