Well, #mozilla announced a new CEO that has decided to lean into the AI shittery moreso.
Cool, I especially love this quote:
> First: Every product we build must give people agency in how it works. Privacy, data use, and AI must be clear and understandable. Controls must be simple. AI should always be a choice — something people can easily turn off. People should know why a feature works the way it does and what value they get from it.
"easily turn off"
How about off by default? If you are going to be serious about privacy, data use and AI, collecting it and making it on by default is demonstrating a serious lack of understanding of the first two.
2.
> our business model must align with trust. We will grow through transparent monetization that people recognize and value.
3.
> It will evolve into a modern AI browser and support a portfolio of new and trusted software additions
It also demonstrates that the second and third point where they want a business model to 'align with trust'. There is no trust in this situation and participants here are not willing to support an organisation that is focused on rotting their browser experience.
Third point being is that firefox will evolve into a "modern AI browser".
Ask yourself, is this truly what your users want?
CEO for not even 1h and demonstrates a lack of spine and a lack of listening to their userbase.
This isn't to say they aren't trying to be pragmatic or doing what their biggest donors (Google and the other silly companies) is pushing for. However, it is incredibly disappointing that such an organisation is just a vehicle for driving unnecessary bullshit.
