I often see people surprised that the Republican base votes against their own economic interest and for obviously shitty people. How's this for a short explanation:
Systems train people to maintain them (or they don't last as systems). White supremacy and patriarchy are systems built on pervasive frequent abuse. Beneficiaries of those systems, wanting to preserve the system and their power in it, support people who protect the systems and the abuse that sustains them. The shittiness of their chosen leaders isn't secondary; it's to be enjoyed and emulated.
Fun fact: processed meats are highly profitable, because they are so pumped up with injected brine and gelling agents. Some meats are injected over 50% by weight. Those hundreds of injection needles have to be cleaned out after every shift by an employee, with compressed air. Where does that aerosolized meat protein go? They breathe it. They are young immigrants, because when they get sick or injured, they get deported. I wish I was joking, but this is exactly what happens. This is why investors hate unions, because workplace safety and proper healthcare is a slight inconvenience to them.

This is a power grab. AI tools are embedded in so many projects because companies needed to "prove" their value.
Now, people forced to use these tools will have their work infected with the AI stench, whether they meant to use AI or not.
I got my Gmail address back when you could only get those with an invitation. I have almost a quarter century of stuff associated with that account.
But I am less and less comfortable with Google. I don’t use Maps or even their search engine anymore. I have been considering migrating away from them for a while and I guess this is how I’m getting started.

Some months back I put myself on the waitlist for the #mozilla #thundermail beta and today I got to create my account!
I’ve got it set up on my email clients and I have set it as the email address for some online services I have (mostly other Mozilla stuff like Firefox Relay).
Since it’s still in beta I’m not going to move over all the stuff I’ve connected to my #gmail account just yet. That process will take time, anyway.

It is very strange to see articles fretting about civilian infrastructure and cyberattacks on American water control systems as some sort of dangerous new precedent being set, crossing the rubicon, when if you have a better memory than a drunk goldfish you might remember that the United States has deliberately destroyed desalination plants in the last month and opened this conflict by killing everyone in a school.
