The first time I saw a piano turn up at a park near me -- just sitting outside, no shelter from the weather -- I was scandalized. Seems that one of the neighbors was moving, and no one would accept the upright. Churches, social groups, etc didn't want it. "May as well let it go out in glory."

We got a plastic cover to at least keep the rain off it, and it got used every day until the winter snows came

And in the spring, there was another old piano in its place.
