Powerful text.

"The oligarchs are announcing the battle lines loudly, proudly: that it is us against them. They suggest, without flinching, that for Cyclopes to thrive, humanity may have to die. The young generation that is rising up to fight it understands this. I know that, earlier in this essay, I suggested we should “regulate with extreme prejudice”. But what I really want to say about those AI companies is this: terminate with extreme prejudice."

Forcément, si on laisse traîner ce genre de statue dans une cathédrale, comment expliquer aux adolescents que non, Jesus n’avait pas de smartphone 2000 ans plus tôt ?

Surprisingly his has actually produced quite a susinct picture of solarpunk

❄️ As you trudge through the leaves, rain and winds a howling sheer cold gust whips at your face. You pull your collar closer around your neck and protect your cheeks with your hood. The horizon has darker clouds, probably filled with snow, gradually making their way across the fields in front of you.

You take a moment to take it all in and whisper to yourself "Bonk Wave is Coming..."

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today.

Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man. Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date.

Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too.

Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course.

– George

Now that it is
the last week of October
if they ask why
you are wearing a mask
just tell them you
are wearing a costume
for a Halloween party,
and when they ask
what you are dressed as,
tell them you are dressed as
someone who gives a damn
about other people.

Le S-1 d'Anthropic vient d'être rendu public.

Ça fait... 335 pages hors annexes, 2300 pages sur ma liseuse. Et j'imagine qu'une grande partie est (fièrement) générée par IA. Impossible a lire, donc, encore moins séquentiellement.

Je pense appliquer la même strat que pour celui de spacex c'est a dire lire l'intro puis le reste au pif, et voir si y'a des trucs intéressant qui me tombent dessus par hasard.

I refuse to play it your way! Why would I select some old rock stars or pampered celebrities when we've got so much great music right here?

Ce matin, j’ai allumé France Culture, et j’ai entendu que Lula et la coalition étudiante en Serbie avaient gagné, et j’ai tout de suite éteint pour rester sur des bonnes nouvelles 😅

Bassist and sometime flautist Conrad St Clair on creating a Frank Zappa tribute band.

https://www.guitarworld.com/artists/bassists/conrad-st-clair-frank-zappa-the-furious-bongos

'Interestingly, Frank rarely wrote particularly demanding bass parts. There are plenty of difficult passages in his music, but the bass guitar doesn’t usually get the most technically challenging material.

... Frank wrote basslines that his bass players didn’t actually play as written because they couldn’t quite manage them.'

I have also finally found time to read Arundhati Roy's excellent essay on AI. Less short, but highly recommended:
