this reminds me of the Japanese transportation company called "Escargot" (https://tmc-escargotbus.com/info)

TIL that PSPP, an application for analysis of sampled data, and an alternative to IBM SPSS, was initially called "Fiasco"...

Hey, subtoot, but folks can be happy about a good thing today without automatically forgetting an important thing tomorrow!

Ouiiiiiii enfin

A new little side project at the #DLA: Over the next few weeks, we're building a floppy disk imaging station with up to 4 drives, #Greaseweazle and #Kryoflux ... connected via USB to the imaging computer.

... initial setup, first tests ... it works 😅
To be continued.

The history of the standardisation process of the proprietary OOXML format: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2026/10/23/the-history-of-ooxml-format/

I am looking for a website that showed broken files - images that were corrupted during transfers, strangely interpreted text, etc. Do you remember that #digipres crowd?

https://www.samedis-du-libre.org/Premier-Samedi-du-Libre

Another definition for digital preservation I'm considering using right now (not aiming at comprehensiveness, just another concise way of putting it to encourage discussion):

"Computer science applied to historical records"

#digipres

Not to sound overdramatic but with each passing hour I’m getting more and more saddened by the rejection of the DEIB devroom that we proposed at #FOSDEM (an initiative driven by @RosannaSibora and @Gina)

It would have been so powerful to have a DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) track - to promote the visibility of a different kind of folks in tech AND celebrate them at Europe’s largest open source gathering.

A mini 🧵🥲

A brilliant find on the internet. 👏

Hi #digipres friends! I plan to write a blog post about #PRONOM and associated tools - but I need an image to illustrate it.

What would you use???

(I'm realizing I'm using the fediverse like other people use AI - to compensate when I run out of ideas!)

At #nttw10, Callie Holmes' presentation was titled "Computer says no", which led me to "Little Britain" videos, and I think I will reuse it in the #digipres world for repositories that reject invalid files.

My periodic complain:

Just Solve the File Format Problem (https://fileformats.archiveteam.org/) is down again...

#digipres

:blobfoxheart:
