BSDun — FreeBSD ELF support for the Linux kernel
bsdun is a Linux kernel module that teaches the kernel to recognise and load
FreeBSD ELF executables, with the emulated FreeBSD userland rooted at
/compat/freebsd. It is the mirror image of FreeBSD's Linuxulator (which runs
Linux binaries on FreeBSD): here we run FreeBSD binaries on Linux.

Excerpt from:
»How are we preparing for the long web?«
„The digital dark ages has been circulating among archivists and information scientists since the late 1990s. In 2018, a data preservation director at Google noted that we may end up knowing less about the early 21st century than we do about the early 20th, as early 20th century records were made on paper, while so much of what we create now is born digital and dies digital, without ever becoming physical.
All of this writing. All of these photographs. All of these communities. Less legible to a historian in 2125 than a handwritten letter from 1925.“

Reading "Careless People" by Facebook whistleblower Sarah Wynn Williams. Even though its stuff we've known about and/or suspected for a long time, it's still a mind blowing indictment of the abuse of power by big tech. And of course, they are all at it

I just stumbled upon "Flarum", an free and open source forum software.
Looks interesting!

What is »permacomputing«?
„Permacomputing is both a concept and a community of practice oriented around issues of resilience and regenerativity in computer and network technology inspired by permaculture.
There are huge environmental and societal issues in today's computing, and permacomputing specifically wants to challenge them in the same way as permaculture has challenged industrial agriculture. With that said, permacomputing is an anti-capitalist political project. It is driven by several strands of anarchism, decoloniality, intersectional feminism, post-marxism, degrowth, ecologism.
Permacomputing is also a utopian ideal that needs a lot of rethinking, rebuilding and technical design work to put in practice. This is why a lot of material on this wiki is highly technical.
Most importantly, there is no permacomputing kit to buy. See permacomputing as invitation to collectively and radically rethink computational culture. It is not a tech solution searching for a problem. You are free to start your own initiative and use the term permacomputing, however please make sure you understand the purpose and ethos of this project.“
Hm, interesting concept!

Good morning, fediverse, whereever you're reading this 🤗

"The Sex Criminals and Child Abusers of ICE and CBP"
By the numbers:
Out of 152 cases of identified immigration officials or contractors accused or convicted of criminal behavior, 131 of them, or 86.2 percent, were charged with sex offenses. Seventy-eight of them—51 percent of the entire cohort—"committed sex offenses against children—the single largest category on the list"…
More than 12 percent of the identified 152 ICE and CBP officers were charged with or convicted of domestic violence.
Many cases of sexual assault and child abuse inside DHS happened on the job. Nearly 45 percent of the examined cases, 68 out of 152, involved misconduct deriving from positions of authority.
These stats are just from cases that resulted in charges.
In-fucking-credible 🤬

Tens totalmente razão, mas ao mesmo tempo as coisas podem accelerar subitamente dando um entorno legislativo adequado... Ya se ha visto antes...

@ferrebam we live just outside to the south of the Sierra Nevada. 58kms from the city. I don't think there is too much to be worried about, we have a lot of quakes in this region but there aren't many above Mag4. I have been here 24 years and today it was the first time I have felt anything. There was some minor damage and I think 3 people were slightly injured, I guess by falling debris.

@epn4littlefedi Do you live in Granada? This next week we are going to travel to Granada city to visit family and friends, we have not done so for years and we are a little worried about the situation

"Global Photo Project 2026. One day, one world, many ways to see it.
On August 19th, 2026, people everywhere will take photos of daily life. We will all capture one day on Earth together. This is the birthday of photography, and I want to invite you to join.
The idea is very simple. Just take one photo on August 19th, wherever you are and of whatever you like. You do not need special gear or skills. You can use any camera, including your phone. Everyone can join, whether you are just starting or have been taking photos for years.
After August 19th, you can send your photo on the website. The submission link will be sent after the 19th of August 2026. You will have time to send the image until August 31st. All the photos will be shown together in a big gallery and also in a book. This project is not for profit. The money from the book will go to charity. You will always keep the copyright of your photo."
