(Bonus: despite Harrison's obvious familiarity and comfort with our agent overlords, it reads as entirely human-written, because --- aside from the solver summaries --- it is.) 4/4

I'm telling you about it not exclusively to brag about my great student, but primarily to signal boost the super-interesting and accessible blog post he's written on it: c.mov/lymphosat/ 3/4

LymphoSAT is a pretty interesting (IMHO) divergence from how AI has traditionally been applied to SAT. Instead of being a single solver, it's 126 novel, highly optimized, family-specific solvers. Most of them don't use traditional SAT algorithms at all. 2/4

A couple of weeks ago, my PhD student Harrison Green's solver LymphoSAT won the SAT track at the SAT Competition 2026 (satisfiability.org/SAT26/), beating 27 other entrants (including 10 other AI-enhanced solvers). c.mov/lymphosat/ 1/4

Curious about the (academic) vibes over here relative to BlueSky, where there’s been a sort of hilarious and really striking influx of academics since the election. Is that affecting things on this end of the social mediaz?

Looking for a unicorn Software Engineering teaching faculty candidate? Hire (my student) Tobi! He’s created and delivered multiple courses, taken pedagogy classes, and is deeply thoughtful about pedagogy. DM me if you want, I’ll pass opportunities along to him. https://x.com/tdurschmid/status/1829577455742660685?s=46&t=p7ZjOcgs3I70WH997ohiOQ

Massive outage due to bad software update? Where people mostly aren’t getting hurt that I know of, and also it doesn’t affect me? It’s my favorite kind of day, yinz. Bugs are the best.

Note that I've tried this more than once on multiple days so it's not an intermittent failure.

Anyone know how to contact anyone at IEEE Xplore/their digital library? They erroneously have multiple author profiles for me. The "contact us" form doesn't work in multiple browsers ("Email failed to send"). Anyone know anyone over there?

I've bridged in my Bluesky posts: @brian.gawalt.com

You guys, I'm drunk with power. ALT TEXT: bibtex entry exported from DBLP, with brackets around the last name {Le Goues}, so that anyone who copies the bib from DBLP will not end up citing me as Goues, CL henceforth.

(Turns out, if you email them, they will just silently fix their metadata. News you can use!)

I understand the calendar shift for major SE venues, but the idea of having to go to class today after getting back from 6 days of #icse2024 is a little daunting.

Very specific travel complaint time: The 767s Delta has to fly Lisbon—>East Coast US have weirdly small overhead bins over the middle/center rows?? I’m like this is a major international flight my dudes wtf a whole section of overhead bins that doesn’t fit a totally normal roller board carry on. Hello?? At least they board these flights weirdly early, time to handle the resulting chaos.

squaresLab@CMU at #icse2024: Check us out first in Repair 1 (small auditorium, right now); Aidan Yang and He Ye this afternoon (FL and repair, respectively); Tobias Duerschmid, Friday, on static model recovery; and then me, Claire, waxing philosophical at APR on Saturday. Phew!

Unequivocally cool to see ICSE hitting what I’m pretty sure is record number of attendees. We’ll never be NeurIPS or SIGGRAPH or whatever, which is kind of strange given what we study, but such is life in SE for whatever reason. And regardless, it’s nice to be part of a reasonably healthy and growing community. #icse2024

As usual I'm behind the zeitgeist so this observation isn't particularly new, but I saw a cybertruck in the wild today as I scooted into work. It really does look exactly like something you'd run into playing a first-gen Playstation game. Feels like there's a rift in spacetime, it's frankly unsettling.

It's Open House and I'm not even actively recruiting this year and yet still RIP my calendar. 😭

I have discovered a very reliable way to determine, instantly, whether a person has children: show up in front of them with pinkeye. I am 3-for-3 today of making eye contact with a person with kids and having that person say something like “ah shit sorry about the pinkeye.” Anyone else is just like “oh hey how’s that cold going?”

I'm home sick so not in a position to add much color to David's thoughtful summary. But, worth mentioning that I often say, in a way that sounds a bit flippant but really isn’t, that the longer I study bugs, the less I know what they are. It’s so fun to talk about/hash the question out with David, who comes at most software questions (most questions in general, honestly) from a totally different direction than I do.

In an update no one asked for: it’s (mercifully) still possible to try on swimwear for purchase at department stores phew. Necessitates a drive to the burbs but desperate times…
