10h agoHad a family get together today. I swam in a lake and played with a grand niece and grand nephew. Did NOT apply sunscreen because I am stupids, but I did wear one of those ‘tech’ shirts that dry fast so I didn’t scorch my shoulders/back.
Next time: sunscreen.

The biggest loss is the maple in the backyard. We called it the "Bailey" tree. Named after a friend's Red Heeler (Cattle dog) that we took care of about 25 years ago.
Bailey would run up the side of the tree while playing Frisbee.
This is about 50% of the tree and is all of the central section of the tree. This will definitely have to come down... but not an emergency.
Large middle branch taken out. This might have been the original "lead" of the tree. This is about 1/3rd of the tree. Guess time to plan on major prune of any other weakness. 😢
One of the white pines was "topped". It's laying on the ground in the back.
They were planted by previous owners in 1980s.
Nothing is forever.

Neighbor texted he is trying to get back home - but trees down and blocking the roads he's been trying to use.
I'm fixing to go survey the damage in another 15 to 30 minutes... I'm still hearing thunder... and I'm not a big fan of lightning...

Big storm going through. The initial wall brought up to 80mph winds... and I know what I will be doing for the next several days.
Fortunately the storm dropped the temp by 10-15 degrees (F)...
What we can see from the house - 3 maple trees lost significant chunks of branching. The trees look a bit like a "U" versus a "lollypop"...
Hopefully - no more...

In the days of yore - meaning 30ish years ago - when the company would switch out computer systems - annually -- using the 1/3rd rule. 1/3rd of the systems would be new. The 1 year old systems would flow to folks that had 2 year systems. The 3 year systems would go away.
I once swapped out an old "AT" sized box during the winter... and a few days later the person complained that desk area was cold now.
IOW... the old AT box put out enough heat that it kept their under desk space warm.

Crash on east side of Michigan this morning.
Young family killed (2 parents, 2 young kids)
Pickup crashed into their car (was on shoulder)...
Car ended up in multiple pieces. Loaded on two separate flatbed trucks. Pickup in one piece with front end mashed. Pickup driver alive and taken into custody.
Sad result for the family...

Today - I was doing work inside the house. But I had to occasionally go to detached garage to get tools & such -- and then return them.
Over 3 or 4 hours - 5 minute jaunts to garage a few times. Each time I came back in dripping with sweat. Not really due to exertion...
It's all about the 100+ F "feels like" (high 90's F temp).
