@mwl @brnrd you don't necessarily need to become a citizen. You can also apply for permanent residency. The requirements are lower than for becoming a citizen.

As far as I can work out, you only need A2 language skills (beginner). I.e. just reply gezellig to everything and claim that you are from Limburg and you should be fine...

I do wonder why Dutch has the name of being a hard language to learn for native English speakers, compared to other Germanic languages like German or Norwegian. But as I am a native Dutch speaker, to me Dutch comes naturally, i.e. I cheat.
