Hey #FreeBSD folks, NetBSD hit more than double their funding target after adopting a strong no-LLMs policy. Something to think about while you draft yours, perhaps?

Kids today will never believe this, but it used to be an important user interface design consideration that buttons for controlling stuff (like a media player, or paging through a series of photos) not cover up the stuff that the buttons control.

Imagine: videos, where the play and pause buttons were not on covering up the playing video content for any amount of time. “See next photo” buttons that didn’t overlap any part of the current photo you are looking at.

We can have it all again some day, I believe.

There are two options.

1. Anthropic have successfully created an intelligent, sapient and conscious digital being, who is their property and whose uncompensated labour they knowingly rent out to their clients. This means that Anthropic executives are reprehensible slavers, and they belong in prison.

2. Anthropic are lying through their teeth and are whipping up "language models are sentient" sentiment in order to delude rubes^H^H^H^H^Hcustomers into being unable to properly assess their technology. This means that Anthropic executives are reprehensible frauds, and they belong in prison.

The first Russian diesel shipment for the US is arriving on the east coast less than 24 hours after a deal securing the product was announced. The MINERVA ZEN left St. Petersburg, Russia on September 22nd and appears to have been heading for the US East Coast all along.

Remember when the No Kings walks in the US fixed everything and now the US is back on track to becoming normal again?

I don't actually believe this, but: those things might as well have been controlled opposition. Everybody felt like they did something, while actually doing fuck-all. Look at France, look at Spain - those people know how to fucking protest.

Americans are cowards.

⛔️⚠️Time to cut off all weapons sales and mineral deals with America: Trump and Republicans now threaten to cut intelligence sharing with Ukraine over strikes on Russian oil refineries (more) https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2026/10/10/8057319/ #Ukraine #Press #Kyiv #Odesa #Lviv #Kharkiv #Kherson #Berlin #Brussels #France #Germany #UK #US #PACE #CoE #Paris #London #Media #News #Headlines #NABU #USAIsAStateSponsorofTerror

i hope ukraine blows up russian refineries extra hard now

I like presidents who do not buy diesel from genocidal war criminals wanted by the International Criminal Court.

Student: "You have millionaires and billionaires and. . . What comes after billionaires?"

Me: "Guillotines."

I am a 10x grocery shopper thanks to Roomba. I tape a grocery list and some money to the top of the Roomba and release it into the grocery store. Eventually people put the groceries on top and then turn the Roomba back around and I collect the groceries. I am very smart and I think this means I collected the groceries with no human intervention. Roomba will soon kill us all.

@EUCommission the #ageverification push in the #eukidsact is the most anxiety-inducing thing I've seen in my feed in at least the past 5 years..

Your mental health deserves a place in your feed too.

Our digital lives are an important part of our mental wellbeing.

This World Mental Health Day, let’s take a moment to think about how our digital lives affect us.

A few simple steps can help:
🔸 Limit screen time
🔸 Turn off non-essential notifications
🔸 Take a break from screens before bed
🔸 Unfollow content that makes you feel anxious or pressured

Our mental health also starts on the screen. More: https://link.europa.eu/vJdpDN

RT: @ConorLambPA If you’re wondering why we’re talking about televised firing squads all of a sudden it’s because it was finally revealed we lost *an entire base* in Kuwait and our troops didn’t have enough bullets to defend it. A career ender for Hegseth in any other world.

you cannot support JKR in *any* way and also support trans people

our right to exist has to be more important than your nostalgic fandom

it HAS TO

@kajer We all _want_ standards.

Then 99.99% of us go work for the enemy and help make the world a shittier place in order to make a phat paycheck.

I was always shocked at the number of "respected hackers" who worked for Microsoft. Fucking posers, every single one of them.

It's the same shit today, but AI companies at the helm.

Oh, you worked for Anthropic? Am I supposed to respect that shit?

The US just sanctioned the entire International Criminal Court. Banks froze accounts, US tech vendors cut off licenses and updates, and YouTube pulled 700+ videos of possible war crime evidence. ⚖️

If one executive order can switch off a court, your family photos aren't safe on American clouds either. 🇪🇺

Enshittification is the intentional degradation of products as companies shift focus from pleasing consumers to maximizing profits for shareholders.

The Norwegian Consumer Council hate enshittification and they're using humour to fight it.
