Whilst I greatly appreciate the lad on the drive through saying that I had “the beard of the gods”, I feel I look like Karl Marx when he’s just got out of bed.

Am trapped.

Old-and-busted, new-hotness. It’s an old iMac so we should get old-busted-hotness.

IKEA make everything these days… even iMac repair joists.

The fields around our house seem to be a popular stopping-off point for migrating geese. All the angry honks seem to suggest that _someone_ refuses to ask for directions. Gerald. 😒🙄

The Council is in session.

Someone’s going to get a surprise when they wake up…

Found an old photo of my rig-before-they-were-called-rigs from when I was a teen in the mid 90s.

486 SX 33MHz with not one, but two kinds of floppy disk drive, AND a CD-ROM.

🤓

Our child has stolen my copy of Restory on that there Steam Family. Rude. 🙄

Gonna have to recycle some space ships in Hardspace Shipbreaker for some post-day-job brain reset before I start on the freelance.

First time anyone's ever re-assigned ticket number 666 to me for “religious reasons”… 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ah man, 2026 got Optimus Prime now? 😭

Looks like someone got a yoghurt pot.

Well this plank has just scared the life out of the whole household by jumping out of a first floor window 😣

She didn’t know what all the fuss was about. Traumatised our youngest, who saw it, but is sitting on the couch with me, calm as anything.

Curse you, early Internet horrors! 😱

Yep. That’ll fix it. 😒

Just realised that our family dentist appointment tomorrow is at two-thirty.

The dad jokes will not let me sleep.

From what we've all seen, building software got dramatically cheaper over the last three years. I don't think it made the software better though, and I don't think the next model changes that.

The coding was never the expensive part. That cost collapsed; supporting what you ship, working in an old estate, deciding what should even exist, none of that did. So the cost didn't disappear, it just moved somewhere harder to see.

Written up here based on the last few years: https://jamiehurst.co.uk/2026-08-07_cheap-to-build

It’s a very sunny and warm day. Someone has just driven past in a Mk1 MX-5 with their roof up. The police are on their way.

The contracting day job is going through a sort-of forced LLM adoption push right now. This whole week, starting a new Slack chat with someone has been like getting a prompt back but with way more lag.

My last MR didn't even get reviewed through GitLab... I just got a bunch of feedback from someone else's Cursor in a DM. 😒😩

Sounded like a fast jet just gone over Durham... jumped out of my skin 😅
