Well... crap. The path to enshittification is now set. If it isn't forked already, someone better do so now.

@collectifission As predicted, their new CEO is a Venture Capitalist with a "track record" of becoming CEO of companies, just to sell them out.
@collectifission valt mee toch. Het is alleen maar voor resellers anders.
- Bitwarden will always have a free and open source version.
- Bitwarden is not going closed-source
- You can still fork Bitwarden
- No change to self-hosting, the licensing change affects those who are reselling Bitwarden
- The free plan is here to stay permanently
@noize Ja, ik ken die "verzekeringen" wel. Ik heb ze iets te vaak gehoord zelfs de afgelopen twintig jaar.
@noize It's not about the free plan being beer-free. It's about new enhancements not being speech-free. @collectifission
Yes, I heard the phrases before as well, good point.
Capitalism is ruining another project.
@collectifission Openwashing, as one of the comments said. Time to fork?
@collectifission looking at https://european-alternatives.eu/category/password-managers but … not entirely sure what the problem is? I would like to know, not trying to say everything’s fine. I’m just not enough of a nerd (when it comes to computer/open source things). I just want something that works. I could even pay for it, at least a little …
@maxwainwright The problem is that this is a clear signal that things will progressively get worse from this point on out: a dead open source branch, no community oversight, price hikes, degrading support (which can only be delivered by the company from here on out) because support is expensive, etc.
This won’t happen overnight, but we’ve seen it happen many times before.
@collectifission ok, thanks, good to know that i haven’t missed something. No rush to change to something else for me then
