Helped my brother in law make some furniture and used the leftover wood to make a table that can go behind my couch.

Had to get it home somehow so here's some #CarryShitOlympics

What's a good provider for a cheap VPS?

I've seen the name hetzner thrown around a few times so I'm assuming that's one of the more common ones.

Repair cafe this Friday again. Also if you haven't been there but live nearby I highly recommend checking out Principles coffee house, it's a great shop.

Noob question but I've never actually been good at this, just willing to go for it.

Do missed stitches usually mean I need to adjust the tension on my sewing machine or something else?

Edit: thanks all, the problem was that I needed to learn more about how to stitch curves. Once I looked up a few articles on that specifically I got one pretty neatly.

After an extended absence (travel and then waiting for school to start again so I can be free during the daytime) repair cafe is starting again this Friday

I also see that I can put in some text to display for browsers that can't play the video in there. Would screen readers read that or is that the wrong place for it?

For short form video HTML tags, what is the preferred way of presenting a description for screen readers?

"title", "aria-label", something else, both work equally well?

When looking up accessibility best practices I see a lot about how to add captions to videos but that doesn't make as much sense for short form stuff compared to a static description.

Does anyone know of good coloring book zines to print and use as fun party favors for a toddler birthday party? I saw a bunch on Etsy but rather than investigate each shop I find there to see if it's selling AI slop, I prefer to get a recommendation for an artist.

Ideally something book or reading themed because when we asked her what theme she wants for the party she said "books" but anything with toddler friendly themes and levels of detail works.

Probably the last one until September unless someone else wants to run them during August.

My laptop stopped working. It now usually just boots to a black screen (doesn't even show the bios info).

When I got it past that screen yesterday (I think by charging it for an hour before turning it on) it doesn't even see the battery anymore.

I bought a new battery because the one in it was clearly shit and slowly dying but does anyone have any tips to get it working more consistently until I get the new battery? Maybe taking the old one out?

It's an acer aspire E5-575G-53VG

The 2 year old looking over my shoulder as I read an article and notices things moving:

"What's that?"
"It's an ad"
"What are ads for?"

Fuck, now I have to explain capitalism

I was frustrated by the number of businesses that only have an Instagram presence. However, that is where most people are and therefore the place where it is worth putting effort into.

My plan is to make an easy to host site that is optimized for organizations and will natively surface posts through ActivityPub, RSS, ATProto and a simple website and also have easy integration with the walled gardens. Namely Instagram but I might also integrate with X or Facebook.

Over the last few months I've been working on a project and while it's still not really ready, it's close enough for a nice canonical thread to pin to my profile so here it is (pin will start with the next post since the preamble is not worth it).

All I have now is some of the backend so a lot of what I'm going to describe does not exist (yet). If you want to see what does exist, you can find it on my codeberg account:

Repair cafe again this Friday.

I think so far at least half the people showing up have needed sewing help.

I will also not be doing repair cafe next week or any of August because of travel so I either need volunteers to take over or to just cancel it for those dates.

Bad picture because I was hauling some furniture uphill and so I couldn't go backwards but there's a cool bird near grand army plaza or at least was 10 minutes ago when I passed by.

For some reason this is the only song at bedtime she sings along to also she insists that I should say "big star" instead of "little star"

Figured out how to strap a dolly to the back of my bike to be able to haul a big tent when needed

A local bike shop is trying to get camping regulations in NY state changed to make hike/bike camping as a group easier because the rules are currently written with only drivers in mind.
