Question for people who use screen reading software; I try to not put links in the middle of my messages here, and instead add them at the end. I also saw a toot today from someone who warned ahead of time that there were multiple links in their message. How do you feel about these two things? Does this improve your experience? #blind #question #accessibility

Bonus, if you are so inclined (I am still on the fence because I don’t want to use LLM’s for this, and certainly not openAI’s, but the challenge to set it up is alluring) and you use HomeAssistant you can use just one old phone and the aforementioned paraphernalia to use the phone to talk to your house and to an LLM. (Link with more info but Dutch only unfortunately). https://doe-duurzaam.nl/artikel/met-een-domme-telefoon-je-huis-slim-aansturen/ also see this youtube video (in Dutch but gives a good idea) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSE0VbS8sVI

My older phone didn’t make the ringing sound so it needed certain settings set up _and_ some screwdriver action to make the phone’s connector match this picture (switch the yellow cable in it to the same connection as the blue cable): https://community.kpn.com/vast-bellen-13/ptt-t65-tdk-rinkelde-niet-op-box-12-zo-heb-ik-dit-opgelost-636759

I might do a write up later to summarize exactly what settings I needed to change on the grandstream devices! 3/3

If you are in the Netherlands and you want to recreate this, you need
- two Grandstream 801 or 802 (the difference is the number of ports for a rj11 cable; you can also just get one 802 but then you’ll need two long cables if you want some distance between both phones). It comes with a ethernet cable.
- for each phone that still has what we call a ‘pig snout’ cable, this box to convert from that to rj11 https://www.hubo.nl/products/q-link-telefoon-contactdoos-wit (only Hubo seems to sell them right now) 2/3

Bought two ‘old’ phones, connected them each with a Grandstream 802 (could have used an 801), changed a wire, got an old fashioned plug for the rj11 connection, and now… I can phone my wife from my desk (and later the kitchen) if she’s up in her attic and dinner’s ready 🎉 (yes I could text. But I want an excuse to use this old phone)

I forgot where I found this, but it is hilarious.

Wearing some mansplaining armour for the day:

@ivory hi friends, I think Ivory is missing an implementation of filtering by language. I’d like to configure what languages toots I see and which ones get filtered out (depending on the language set in the toot). I am hoping this will also improve adoption of the toot-language feature for accessibility reasons. #featureRequest

Dear colleagues. With all the goings on in the world and the rise of the ‘tech oligarchy’ it might be easy to turn cynical towards technology and IT. But if we want people freed from the influence of Meta, Amazon, Twitter and Google, our skills are in dire need to create accessible, easy to use, simple to switch to alternatives. People will need ways to connect to eachother more than ever and they need to be able to do it in a way that is not easy to manipulate. I’m counting on you!
