Two hours ago: Hey that looks like an automated license plate reader along the highway.
Now: Yep, it is.
More bullshit without any public input as far as I can tell.

A deep dive into the downfall of Scientific American. Good people tried to save its integrity but lost.

I am a casual NBA fan but seeing Giannis in a Miami jersey is about as wrong as it gets.
Where are all the writers who can translate the latest infosec stuff into sentences that non-experts can understand? Haven't seen any yet. Major media seem to be ignoring whatever major things appear to be happening. Possibly I missed some articles.
It's hard for healthy people to imagine what this is like...I spent about 2 years almost 100% bedbound and it is hell. Showered about once every 10 days because that's all that my energy budget allowed.
Some people in this severely ill state experience partial spontaneous recovery but some certainly do not.

The Brewers are going to the World Series, which means...stay off the roads in Wisconsin tonight.
People really don't know what to do with, "I developed health problems and wanted to live somewhere nice" when they ask why I moved to Kaua'i. I used to fudge the answer (I'm a Midwesterner and making people uncomfortable is kinda against the rules there) but don't bother anymore. Ask a personal question, get a personal answer.
I regret to inform you that "relaxation" has been rebranded as "nervous system regulation."
Today I did some light duty bundling potatoes of cement into ziplocs for swimmers to float out to a dive team that's reattaching corals to a reef that was wrecked by Hurricane Lowell. The work is paid for by an insurance policy taken out by The Nature Conservancy. They were planning to hit 1,000 corals reattached today with the goal of 2,000 by Wednesday, when their permit expires. Impressive work from everyone.
Just saw someone ask if the fediverse was going to talk about a planned public execution in the US, and I've seen people & various publication accounts post and talk about it today, but nothing trends here, so...it's not going to feel like other social networks. No topic is ever going to be THE topic.
The Alaska Airlines app is asking for my passport for travel from Hawai'i to Arizona.
This is new & exciting! I've flown to the mainland many times and this is the first time any airline's system has decided it's an international trip.
The rot is accelerating...
For all the non-olds: Jim Bakker helped invent 1980s US televangelism and Zappa frequently skewered him in song and during interviews.
Who's Frank Zappa, you ask?
GET OFF MY LAWN
Jim Bakker was still alive? Who knew. Not me.
He outlived his nemesis, Frank Zappa, by over 30 years: Proof there is no god.
The ICECUBE experiment is so sci-fi, it deserved the Nobel Prize in Physics.
Francis Halzen was all, Hey, let's drill 2500-meter holes in the ice at the literal South Pole and put neutrino detectors down there.
The experiment fills an entire cubic kilometer. That deep ice is so pure that there's nothing for the neutrinos to hit except water molecules, and such collisions produce other particles that then move faster than light speed in ice so produce a flash of Cherenkov radiation, which is what the detectors see. Seeing high-energy neutrinos for the first time is helping with a bunch of outstanding astrophysics questions.
Funded by US tax dollars...yeah, we used to build cool stuff.
