I pity those who create apps and other gimmicks using LLM and pretend it's the same thing.

I think it's good to have fun.
go have fun with LLM if that's your kind of jam I know it is not mine.
but don't pretend this makes you a developer.
For all the same reasons why opening a microwave meal doesn't make me a michelin cook

my father just sent me something he generated LLM and said it was his first app
    huh?

    dude...
he has been writing software since half a century.
How is this is "first app" when it's not used in the "phone specific" sense of the word but used more generally.
I do genuinly think he never build an "Web App" before but that's because of his industry niche

Yes I do think AI and almost everything about it is morally bad and having fun with LLM might be the same kind of fun as licking the boots of a world destroying billionaire.

but I don't understand the hybris of conflating the job and skill of software development with the usage of LLM.
    I don't feel threatened.
But I do feel Fremdscham / Cringe when someone actually believes that for themselves

    e. g.
writing a character with that believe is nod cringe.

    but *BEING* that character unironically?
    ouch

I was introduced to actually using LLM at work. I had no experience from beforehand (besides knowing what a Transformer is, having studied an ML-heavy specialization at uni, etc). One might argue I had actual knowledge rather than the cargo cult that AI users built for themselves.

my colleagues are a bit... surprised by how I input commands?
    Sycophancy disabled
I never say please / thanks
    i use the imperative
the LLM is primed not to use pronouns like "we" or "I" / low anthropomorphization

In fact I am not even sure if "command" is the proper term.
    rather it is a command-fuzzer?

"touch grass" is a shell command to create (or set last modified timestamp) of a file.
putting in the same in an LLM will create the file just *somewhere*. Perhaps it will even be a grass.md or shrubbery.docx wherever the LLM diceroll leads you

But back to my original point
regardless of the ethics of AI (which I already had a stance on).

Conflating being someone who knows tools (photoshop, kotlin, scribus, ...) with someone who knows how to operate a generator (LLM etc) hurts the person who believes that incl. all the people who fall for it.
When you as a business hire an "AI artist" rather than an "artist" you will have bad surprises pretty soon

But to be fair competent people in tech had always been rare and expensive.
    many people just scrape by.

I always remember the cloud engineer who did not knew what memory was. to them it was just a number they increase on demand in the AWS console.
And I am thinking "this is one of THE most fundamental building blocks of how computing works damn".
That was long before our AI mania.
In fact I know many people who hoped to be conflated with the competent people back then

Back then it was super trivial to spot those who knew shit about computer eng and everyone else.
    a degree does not help.

perhaps the AI mania makes this even more easy to filter out.
I am not about "here is a chalkboard go implement insertion sort without looking it up" I am talking about "it is so obvious it almost radiates out of the candidate"

Hm I looked it up after writing and its not even the algorithm I was thinking about.
often you have semi-sorted lists and identifying sorted segments beforehand drastically reduces sort time.
    It's common in reality.

but tbh if you ever implement sorting and it's not a coding kata you might be doing your job wrong. Use a (standard-)library
