My new job is this and it's fucking great.

@db one thought: the “virtue signal” framing about accessibility drags in culture-war arguments and would probably work better as simply recognizing that many companies like to say they're doing it (“please don't sue us!”) but balk at spending time or money on it, especially because it's often unnecessarily hard due to some of the factors you mention later (developers not respecting it, like CSS, or tools like React which clash with web standards).

@acdha I was thinking more about tools claiming to have solved it, I don't get much trouble from clients inside projects (unless they stumble upon those tools)

@db I devoutly hope that this all will blow over, and do so in as non-destructive a way as possible.

@db I am speaking for myself here, but maybe it is time to move on. I have been developing software for ~25 years and to be frank, I feel burnt out. Even if this blows over, I beleive that something has fundamentally changed in the last few years and I think that in the long run, it harms software development as a craft.

Optimistic? No. Bleak? Very much so - sorry. Realistic? Time will tell.

@qboq i don't disagree but for me I've got nowhere to go so I'm refusing to accept the worst case! (might reassess in a year or two...)
