The point made in some posts I boosted recently about Moore's law ending its run in the vicinity of 2010 feels right. Extrapolating the law you'd have 10s of terabytes of RAM in a laptop today, instead, because of the AI push and the lack of scaling in production, it's still 16GB or maybe 32. If Moore's law had continued to today, all the cutting edge AI models we have today would run just fine on your mobile phone much less your laptop or desktop. Instead, you need a $250k machine
