    Some old ones.
    The white dot on white and black dot on black is to help set brightness and contrast.
    Use the frequency gratings to focus a projector. Originally only for video or RF bandwidth, or perhaps RF tuning.

    The original 4:3 BBC Colour test with clown, balloon, blackboard and girl. But the girl is gone and naughts + crosses replaced by "I resign too". Perhaps a reference to Greg Dyke's resignation.

    @Edent Another one I was taught when I used to tutor evening classes - before starting check the people at the back can see & hear the presentation.

    @Edent not related the post (great read btw) but this is the first time I have noticed a DOI link at the top on your blog? Have you written about how you got this before? Or is there an upcoming post? Search could only find me the post on your MSc.

    I like the idea of a simple test card.

    When I was in academia and on the conference circuit, I got used to finding the room I would be speaking in, in the break before the session, and testing everything properly up front.

    Any "live" demos had a canned fallback, in case of network failure.

    @Edent as someone who used to work in live event corporate AV, it’s wild that the techs there didn’t test basic presenter video and audio playback
