"Of the 16 articles I read on men not going to college, only two mentioned masculinity or male flight."
"when girls enter a space, boys predictably leave" 100%
we gotta fix our Male Supremacist society and until we do, everything will get worse

@susankayequinn the disaster here is that overwhelmingly men make the budgetary decisions which affect college funding. So if men don’t value college they will stop funding it or actively oppose it.
@susankayequinn This feels very America-coded, but I suspect that toxic masculinity making boys think it's okay to reject higher education is very true even in countries with reasonable tuitions, less gang/ military culture, etc.
Enrolment in the US is dropping overall, though. Kids are rejecting it because they don't see it as a return on investment. Maybe if higher ed wasn't treated as a business plan, this would be less true as well.
The American education system is a problem, too.
@ianrogers the "dropping overall" part is at least partially driven by demographics (fewer people in college-age cohorts)
There are plenty of problems with higher ed, but I would say it still presents a potent threat to fascism and patriarchy, given how much they're attacking it
@susankayequinn " it still presents a potent threat to fascism and patriarchy" As a college teacher, I certainly hope so!
@susankayequinn That's a post I would love to read, but sadly it was published in a Nazi bar, so I won't :-(
