cs department/college leaders who touch finances will draw a breath to handwring about how enrollments are down and grants are waning, then exhale to tell us we should change our curriculum to "prepare students for the AI future" and even rename entire programs e.g. from data science to AI. they say we should "have careful conversations about what this means for the future". we should interpret these dicta as from the mouths of hostages.
