    I can’t stop thinking about what an utter abuse of power that emergency alert was.

    I agree it’s a shit situation that fires are being started both accidentally and deliberately, using the alert system to tell people to not be dickheads isn’t what it’s for.

    Wife and I were out cycling at the time and it scared the shit out if us.

    I thought it was meant for real and present dangers, like an active terrorist attack, not just “Behave please.”

    @robb abuse of alerts happens across the pond too. in california they will alert people in san francisco to amber alerts in san deigo or they will alert people to “it’s hot outside” so often that people turn them off. apparently this week in portland i could have been alerted to “man in your neighborhood with machete” which would have been good to know before walking home, but then i have to put up with all the unhelpful alerts too.
