    Okay, let's do this:
I am looking for people interested in no-gen-AI computer meetups in #Lyon. See meetup.com/code-is-art/ for more information but keep in mind that everything you see there is provisional, at this stage it's a sketch.
Would you like to join? Do you know someone who might? Want to contribute ideas, talks, help with the organization? Or just come and listen? Please share, chime in, follow me here or join the meetup group for updates, let's make this happen.

    Why the name?
Because code is a means of communication, a language, a way to build a shared understanding of the world in a way that will retain meaning through time. Writing it with attention and intent is a key part of the process.
That process is as creative as writing in a human language: finding the right spot in effectiveness and readability takes skill and time. It may sound abstract and unnecessary but it is directly connected to maintainability and long-term stability of the system.

A page from Structure and Interpretation of Computer Programs with a sentence highlighted: "programs must be written for people to read, and only incidentally for machines to execute".

Why start with specifically excluding generative AI?
Because it might be the most cynical and destructive hype cycle I have seen so far, wildly overselling what the tech can do (both now and in the future), working hard to convince people to ignore its costs, pushing it everywhere and into everything, undermining the reliability and safety of our systems.
And I am tired of being disappointed seeing so many places and groups choose to give it platform.

Welp, I have a confirmation of the date and the place! The first #CodeIsArt #Lyon meetup is going to be at one of the nicest spots in town, Le Taille Crayon (a couple of minutes on foot from metro Gratte Ciel or Flachet) on August 24th. \o/
I will create a proper event and update groups later today. But it’s getting real! #Lyon

#CodeIsArt no-gen-AI meetups: it is now possible to sign up for the first event!

    On keskonfai: keskonfai.fr/events/6e9b14ad-9

    On meetup.com: meetup.com/code-is-art/events/

Use either to sign up (preferably in advance so that we know how many people to expect), boost if you know anyone who might also be interested, maybe suggest a talk if you would like to share something interesting? And show up at Taille Crayon on the 24th, 19:00, see you there!

#Lyon (and #Python and #Go for the first talk on the list)
