If you ever forgave Platner for the Nazi tattoo and the rape fantasies and the allegations of assault and the imperialist mercenary work—even before the rape accusation—then you have no business, for even a moment, expressing confusion as to how anyone could support someone like Trump.

@HeavenlyPossum @PallasRiot has written a bit about Platner in Maine politics. It sounds like a whole social force was wrapped around a particular person. The particular person was profoundly flawed. But it shouldn't be necessary to have a particular person in that role. The republican model still depends on the heroic fantasy of the noble politician. That's going to attract people like Platner, and it's going to wear down better people. social.treehouse.systems/@Pall

I agree. We have two murderous political parties and yet it's still proper to vote for the one that's better for trans people etc and lots of other things even if only moderately so.

The issue is that they already don't do anything for minorities as a party and the more you accept this "lesser evil" approach, the more evil the people you will vote for. At some point you will vote for people who are actively opposed to the causes you pretend to defend just because they're not on the other team.

The us is already way past that point.

lesser evil voting is inherent in voting unless you're the candidate. politics is compromise. when you don't vote cause somebody is too bad on this thing you care about, recognize that somebody else will not vote for your candidate for the same reason on another issue. in both cases, the even worse candidate wins.

imo final five #RankedChoiceVoting would help.

That somebody you mention already exist. They do not pop out of thin air if I do not vote.

Also, again, at some point it does not matter who is worse. If both want to harm me, we're already past the point where "worse" is even relevant. I do not want to be harmed and I should not be guilt into supporting your preferred executioner.

I think that's just basic decency to respect our indignation and repulsion, and not do that kind of callous propaganda, especially when talking to people who will be targeted.
