    Reviewing 20 years of photography across multiple cameras on a large monitor (as I have lately) will lead you to one inescapable conclusion:

    Smartphones are a *poor* substitute for proper cameras. 😅

    I've started using my #NikonZfc way more again lately. The quality of a good mirrorless or DSLR is still so much better, and the experience of using a camera with a nice lens and manual controls is infinitely more satisfying.

    An iPhone picture of a Nikon Z fc camera sitting on a park bench, sunset in the background and light filtering through the trees and the children's playground.

    @jaredwhite I was just looking these up, and though I don't like Amazon, they have only a handful of these left. They seem pretty amazing for a retro-revival, specs wise. What lens did you end up getting? The 50mm has always been a personal favorite of mine.

    @jaredwhite omg, I was sending a photo to someone, taken on an iphone - you know the device so good you can film production stuff on...

    I zoomed in and was astounded at the ai-sloppification apple applied to it.

    This wasn't passed through any filter or anything, right from my camera roll, cropped of course.

    I rarely look back at my iphone pictures but it makes me so mad now knowing they have stuff like this.

    Iphone photo with clearly ai assisted upscaling which caused the text to become swirly.

    @troy Eeesh.

    You can get around some of that by using an app like Halide with Process Zero so you can get RAW files with minimal "computational photography"

    (though of course then you'll see the range of good images you can achieve optically is far smaller…but generally it's an improvement)

    @jaredwhite sad part is I have Halide, I'm just so used to swiping down and hitting apples camera button. Really need to re-train myself to use it
