More than 50 countries incl Germany, UK, Brazil, Nigeria and Australia will meet in Colombia this week for the first international effort to phase out fossil fuels, despite the absence of the world’s three biggest emitters.

Success will on whether the talks lead to concrete steps such as new policies, green‑tech investment or stronger agreements. Even without the top emitters, coordinated action by over 50 nations could still build momentum for wider change.
