Ion “Johnny K-9” Croitoru is the wildest, most absurd real character in Canadian organized crime history.

He was an actual professional wrestler who worked in the WWE and Stampede wrestling.

When his pro wrestling income dwindled, he joined the Satan’s Choice MC—founding a new chapter in Hamilton.

This resulted in Satan’s Choice battling Outlaws MC, which somehow ended up with Johnny K-9 bombing the police station. If he stopped there, he would be legendary. But there’s more.

After he left prison, he joined the Gravelle crime family as an enforcer. Eventually he was charged with two murders, one of them involving lawyer Lynn Gilbank—in an investigation that lasted six years and cost $6 million. Yet, somehow, he got off—with the Hamilton Police ordered to pay Gravelle $10,000 for court costs.

Then Johnny K-9 moved to Vancouver and joined the UN Gang. Allegedly, while trying to kill one of the notorious Bacon brothers, he and his crew gunned down Jonathan Barber by mistake—a man who had nothing to do with any rival gangs. He was charged once again, and this time he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder.

Johnny K-9 was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but got parole within three years. At this point, he lost all clout in the organized crime world. While living at a halfway house, he died at the age of 51.

Pro wrestlers seemed to like him, though. Jim Cornette once said, “Despite blowing up the police station and allegedly murdering people, he was very nice to me!”
