I grew up without dishwashers. We washed them by hand. First time I saw one was a 1990s horror movie where it bursts open and spills water on the floor and electrocutes a young girl. I have one now but I don't stay in the kitchen when it's running. Can't be too careful.

@fesshole ah yes. It was a metaphor about how housework and traditional gender roles under the patriarchy kill the dreams of young women

@fesshole We also wash all our dishing utensils by hand.
I bought a dishwasher about 3 years ago. We only use it when we have a lot of dishing utensils to wash. We still wash our dishes mostly by hand.
The problem with the dishwasher is that it doesn't pack the dishing utensils away. So we always look for plates and cups and it is in the dishwasher, because no-one packed it away.

@fesshole I feel this way with ice cream trucks. we didn't have them where I lived growing up, now where I live I always see them in the summer. my only interaction with them while my brain was still soft was through goosebumps...
