This is a good post. Doctorow’s discourse has to be filtered through the fact that he’s more a libertarian than a leftist; e.g., “enshittification” is primarily an attempt to save tech-centric capitalism, not a call to a more equitable society. Of course, many of his critiques (of monopolies, surveillance, and so on) are valuable and spot-on, but the current episode shows the mask slipping a bit.
