@stubbornella I wrote a comment on the GitHub thread inspired by your talk.
But I +1 most of the things that were asked for. Except I don’t *really* agree masonry can flow both horizontally *and* vertically.
That said, there should be a way to tightly pack arbitrary sized elements and ignore widths too.
Also, hybrid grid+masonry where only some columns have aligned rows is also an idea that is useful.
@stubbornella Imagine a grid of mostly images but with a few cards of links/controls. On a large screen I’d want those cards in a side column “packed” in a masonry. But on small screens I’d want to drop that side column and put the cards within the grid itself.
@stubbornella This is not a direct request, but I recreated a bunch of masonry layouts with grid layout which might be interesting:

I’ll try to do something similar with arbitrary width items soon.
@stubbornella Actually, let me make that a request:
If this was possible in grid:
grid-row: span fit-content
grid-column: span fill-content?
(Span as many rows as needed to fit the content)
Then a lot of masonry could be done with grid layout itself. But it also makes a lot of other layouts possible too.
@nmn thanks for the comment!
