    @sarajw the fact that my friends like something doesn't mean that I will like it (I mean, I still wanna see because I like my friends and am interested in seeing what they like, so that's also useful)

    whereas algorithms can be tasked with finding stuff relevant to me personally (but are used for evil instead, and surfacing some stuff that I like sometimes is just a side effect, because giving me dopamine hits is profitable)

    @sarajw ideally I'd like to have a privacy-respecting, probably self-hosted, opt-in solution for algorithmic feeds. It's like ice cream or fast food, probably bad for me but I still kinda enjoy it and don't wanna get rid of it completely

    @irth fair! Yeah I mean, friends will boost stuff I'm not into sure, but the algorithmic feeds would also throw in a ton of stuff that didn't suit me or were unhealthy for me to see, and on top of that, the advertising. I'll take the boosts any day!
