We might, for example, ask how the #UK Supreme Court is performing in terms of gender #equality at the bench. The results are not uplifting: After a slight improvement in the late 2010s, around half the judgments (48%) published since 2020 are signed by panels of exclusively male justices.

Despite a terrible historical track record for gender balance at the #UKSC, there seems to be no sign of improvement over time, with last year having the worst #gender balance in recorded history.

The presence of female justices in the judgments of the UK Supreme Court over time since 2009. Most years, just less than half the judgments of the Court are signed by male-only panels.

There is no obvious time trend over time, but the situation seemed to improve slightly between 2018 and 2020, before getting worse again after Covid.

It is exceedingly rare for women to serve together on the bench. Most judgments are resolved in chambers of five justices, a larger chamber of seven is normal but not the default.
