Experimenting for the first time with self-hosted AI-generated images this evening on my Linux laptop to see what it can do: default #InvokeAI install using #StableDiffusion 1.5. Simple to setup if you're familiar with #Python venv and Pip.

Using just the CPU and giving it the prompt "bluebird", this is what it gave in 17 minutes (CPU only). Must admit that I'm pretty impressed.

AI-generated image of a bluebird sitting on a branch and a basic blurred natural background.

I mention CPU twice because... *just the CPU* on an old laptop. It's impressive!

Yet to try it on my main PC with an RTX Nvidia card.

I remember first trying raytracing on Linux nearly 30 years ago, and it took 8-12 *hours* to render a 640x480 image on a 386DX40 with 2MB RAM. Things have moved on so much.
