If you squint your eyes (may need to expand the pic) you’ll see 2 acorn woodpeckers peeking out of their individual cavity nests.
“Dead” trees are often full of life and key to our ecosystem.

Did the news sources you rely on inform you about the #GunViolence outside an #Arizona #Gay bar on Sept 1st, where the gunman had a list of #queer friendly businesses?
The explore tab (the magnifying glass tab) has stopped loading in @IceCubesApp for the last couple of days. It works file in the OG mastodon app. Any ideas why? Tried the usual stuff like clearing cache and reinstalling.

Many of you may have heard of #swatting and considering how many #queer folks are on here I wouldn’t be surprised if someone seeing this has been a victim or know someone who has been a victim of such an attack. Here is a new tactic - using #CPS to inflict maximum pain to queer families. #PeteButtigieg and his family were targeted with a fake CPS report and led to him being separated from his 4 year old twins while the case was being evaluated (and children being interviewed in the absence of parents). This is a horrific new tactic and I hope queer families learn about this so they are not caught flat-footed. Unfortunate post but important, I hope this seen by queer families like mine.

Got another pic of the nest in the tree being used as a granary for acorns. Fun-fact - Acorn Woodpeckers are cooperative breeders, multiple members share mates and other non-sexual members help with raising the chicks. The one outside the nest is clearly the male, which you can tell by the larger red “cap” on its head. The females have a smaller red cap. San Jose, California, May 2026.

What is a trustworthy way to extract the secret key from a QRCode for #MFA that only displays the image and offers no way to access the secret as text? I want to avoid shady browser plugins or commands to extract the secret. I need to extract the secret text since I don't see a way to scan the QRCode directly in my #keypassxc

Kids content for media server
Hi #homelab enthusiasts,
I’m looking to create an ad free experience for toddlers with a home media server. Setting up the media server is the easier part for me. What I’m struggling with is how do you legally collect quality content for the media server. Most newer entertainment is not even available on DVD. Looking for free or paid quality content for media server. Thank you.

I saw the recent news where #France has moved to #visio for video conferencing, replacing American tech like #zoom and #teams. I’m interested in learning what cloud platform #visio relies on? It’s genuinely impressive if they are able to handle the increased demand without American #hyperscalers like #aws, #azure and #gcp. Would love to learn more about their #cloud tech stack.
Could someone please help me identify when these 2 books were actually manufactured?
Just learned about lead contamination in vintage books and want to know the print (manufacture) date before letting children handle these beloved books again.

On Friday which is typically a payday for weekly wages workers, there was some kind of outage that prevented #HomePay (from Care[dot]com) from paying out salaries to domestic workers like nannies, maids, babysitters, etc. They subsequently had a message on their website login screen, but for most of the day for many there was no clarity on when the funds would be dispersed to the workers. Customer care had long wait times due to this issue too. Since funds are typically collected on the Wednesday before, it was already gone from the families accounts who employed them. They eventually sent out communication indicating the delayed payroll would be paid out on Monday.
I’m surprised with such a major payroll platform having a payout outage and there was no news coverage I could find on the subject. I’m really interested in understanding what was the technical issues causing this problem. Also what banking service is HomePay using?
Is it a good idea to backup your Authenticator app like Microsoft Authenticator? Or is it a security concern?
Context: I need to switch phones and I would like to avoid manually switching my 2FA to the other phone.
(I’m not looking for advise on the best 2FA physical token or app, I’m only looking for advise on if backing up for subsequently restoring the Authenticator app has any security concerns while switching phones)
Thank you.
@FediTips, I’m having a lot of trouble with the mastodon iPhone app where all of a sudden while reading a toot the screen jerks and I’m pushed to 5 or 10 posts down. I have to scroll back up to continue reading what I was before being interrupted. Then it happens again. I’m suspecting this is possibly because some of the posts with links render a preview and causes all posts under it to realign vertically. Is this a known issue? Any recommendations? #askfedi #Mastodon
