wrote a post about my guestbook https://kwon.nyc/notes/slow-inefficient-non-derogatory-guestbook/ Also made a small custom plywood box with a plexiglass back for the machine machine, it’s a little rough around the edges (literally - I did not plane or sand any edges), also had a keanu-esque whoa moment when I realized that SAWDUST is the DUST from a SAW (in the middle of sawing)… so it’s been a big day
New blog post: “Four Resolutions From TPAC 2026 CSSWG Meetings”.
https://blog.kizu.dev/four-tpac2026-csswg-resolutions/
Last week TPAC 2026 happened. I attended it remotely, and participated in a bunch of #CSS Working Group meetings.
There were many discussions and resolutions, but I want to focus on four of them. They’re pretty nice! But also I am biased, as they’re all something I wrote about before or will benefit from.
Anyone has experience including non-traditional ornaments on text-y fonts? We want to include around 12 ornaments that are not a good match for any unicode codepoint and I want to understand what would be the easiest (and hopefully more common) way to make them findable and useable. For some of them I *could* use emoji codepoints but I am fairly sure it will not make them easier to access.
I was feeling pretty good about my personal site’s bot-blocking efforts, but the last few days my largest referrer by far is aocr dot org (apparently a symptom of a ByteDance crawler 😑)

Is there a tool (FontGoggles, Wakamai Fondue, or other) where I can inspect all the potential effect of the `locl` OT feature in Apple’s San Francisco font? My niche issue of the day is I can’t see stray ş (s-cedilla) and ţ (t-cedilla) characters while editing content in Kirby CMS…

I finally got rid of the disabled submit button on forms with invalid input! I knew it was wrong for a long time, but made it when I didn't know how to do it better.
Learnings:
- Separate error visibility from input validity
- Client-side validation is good
- Let the form show error messages upon an invalid form submission attempt
- Things are easiest if the form component contains the properties and logic for form field validation
- Just read: https://adrianroselli.com/2024/02/dont-disable-form-controls.html

A lot of people mistakenly understand ‘colour blindness’ to mean that people can only see in monochrome.
That is rarely the case so I’ve put together a little overview to help people actually understand colour vision deficiencies.
We’re delighted to welcome Emigre to The Type Founders!
Founded by Zuzana Licko and Rudy VanderLans in 1984, Emigre changed how designers thought about making and using type, from a magazine set in Zuzana’s pixel-drawn fonts to typefaces like Lo-Res and Mrs Eaves.
More than 40 years later, joining TTF gives Zuzana and Rudy more time to create, both at Emigre Fonts, where they’ll stay actively involved, and at Emigre Studio, home to Rudy’s photo books and prints and Zuzana’s ceramics and textiles.

@sturobson made tidy-typography.css: a style reset for taming typography with modern CSS features for everything from fluid typography and vertical rhythm, to hyphens and variable fonts.
He explains his incredibly thoughtful choices in this article. I hope I get to use this in a real project!

This one’s not for the squeamish, but I love how odd it is.
Really inventive stuff in here!
