Following last night English success in the Euro Championsips, I've noticed that , just like on the African savannah, the Lions laze around, doing nothing but soaking up all the plaudits, while the Lionesses do all the work.
**facepalm**
How fucking stupid is that?
It gives 2 plan options, neither of which appears to do anything st first glance.
30 Day Saver Plan, and 30 Day Plan.
Both have a small i-in-a-circle, information button, which reveals next to nothing on it.
Click on the un-marked box around each plan option, however, and a new section of the page opens.
Towards the bottom of the page.
I have a 4k monitor, using the full page height, and i have to scroll to get tothe new part of the page, it isn't visible normally.
Which...
Gaaahhh...
And to top it all off, it's bloody expensive!
£10 for unlimited voice and texts, withe 20Gb of data I won't use, when I could be paying £2.50-£4 with other providers, or 40p/min for calls, when again some other providers are as low as 1p!
And this is the biggest network in the UK!
Well, that's less than optimal!
We need a pay as you go SIM card, preferably unlimited calls and texts, with no data, for... something... and I'm looking through various UK providers.
And one is explaining the value of their offering, without actually TELLING me what they are offering - I've been clicking around for 10 minutes, and all I can find is a top-up page that won't let me know what I'm buying until i log in, and a log-in page that I need to sign up for.
I just want to get a freaking SIM, not go into shops to ask what deals they can give me!
At most I want to go in and buy one, but that's about it!
Grrrrr...
Has anyone got any experience with Newsmast or Channel.org?
They seem to be either owned by the same entity, or possibly one is the official arm of that entity and the other is using their services, but they seem to be following/boosting a couple of my accounts, and I'm just wondering if they are as benign as they claim.
It's currently 23C here in Oldham, which is about 5C more than I am comfortable with (and even higher on the glass and metal box that is the tram), so I've broken out my neck fan.
Don't know which is getting me more odd looks - the fan, which most people think are for women, or the mask, which most people think are for cranks and weirdos.
Yesterday, entirely by accident, I learned that there is an obscure Irish Saint whose name is Anglicised as "Elvis".
Yes, St Elvis.
Not much is known about him, except that he was the priest who baptised David, the Patron Saint of Wales, and there was a Parish in North Wales (now defunct) named in his honour.
Cool, it's possible Elvis Presley was named after a Catholic Saint.
But it gets weirder.
You see, the ancient Parish of St Elvis is near a small mountain range.
Called, and I'm not making this up, "The Hills of Preseli".
So, it could be that Elvis Presley, a man acknowledged to have Scottish, Cherokee, and Jewish heritage, was accidentally named for an obscure Saint from an even more obscure part of a totally different country.
And I thought this was amusing, and wanted to share...
And, as a side note, I'm a fairly beefy, middle-aged white man, I feel fairly confident telling other white men to fuck off and mind their own fucking business.
Things must be much harder for women, who never know how men will react to them.
The same goes for other marginalised groups - non-white, LGBTQIA+, the very young, those who are less able-bodied, snd many others.
Having to deal with these people is annoying for me, but pales into comparison to those who have legitimate reasons to fear the actions and reactions of white men.
White men just like me.
Oh, FFS, that's it, I've had enough of attempting to justify wearing a mask to every random with an opinion.
This morning, while waiting for a tram to work, another person there started yelling things like "What you wearing that thing for?" and "Covids over mate" and "you shouldn't go around expecting me to wear one of those things", and so on.
I just tuned him out, and refused to engage.
Which just wound him up even more.
"What's the world coming to, when you can't even have a conversation? Ignorant bastard."
Then, when i got to work, I had to show a contractor round, and he started wuizzing me on the mask.
"Why can't you lot just accept it?" I asked."Why should I have to justify my mask to everyone?"
"No need to be like that, I'm only asking" he said.
And eventually he got the point, even conceding that apparently, Covid is coming back.
Which I wish more people would do.
But i also wish people could just respect my decision to mask in public, even if they don't believe it to be necessary.
My wife has a collection of battery-powered air fresheners scattered around the house - every few minutes (default is 20 minutes) they release a burst of scent into the air.
Except one.
This particular air freshener farts every damn time I walk past it.
Because of the layout of the house, it's difficult to get anywhere on the ground floor after coming downstairs without walking past this one, so I walk past it a lot.
And I'm starting to get a bit of a complex about it.
Like, are you trying to tell me I smell or something?
GRRRRR!
And now I'm considering commissioning @welshpixie to calligraphy a logo for me...
Just need to decide if I want to go with this crazy idea or not!
It would be a shame not to - the story about the local MP facing a new challenger at the next election is too groan-inducing not to write at least that...
Dear Brain,
I know you hate me, but please stop giving me ideas for writing projects I just don't have the time (or spoons) to do.
How do you expect me to write daily spoof news stories for a spoof local news site on top of everything else?
Much love, me.
*runs off to look at potential Web site adresses*
*makes notes on stories on Eurovision entries, nonexistent airports, ileagal immigration from the next town, and more*

I work for a UK supermarket (not that one), on the fruit and veg department, and Scottish produce usually (but not always) has the St Andrews flag.
Occasionally, Welsh produce has the dragon, but English and (rarely) Ulster produce has the Union Flag.
What bothers me more is the amount of Israeli produce we get, mostly avocado's and potatoes.

So, we've done the first bit, possibly the easiest bit - the Tories have been removed from power.
Now, we have to hold Labour to account, making sure they improve things for everyone, not just the rich and big business.
We've had 4 years of Tory (mis-)rule, it's time for a government that will put people first.
Voters have rejected Tory policy, it's time for some Socil Democratic government - but I'm expecting Tory-lite.
I'm certainly not expecting any major changes.
But we'll soon see...
Conversation at work...
OtherMemberOfStaff: So, you're a geek, huh?
Me: I have been accused of that, yes.
OMOS: I'm a bit of a geek myself - how geeky are you?
Me: I run my own personal node of my favourite social media network.
OMOS: I'm geeky enough to understand most of those words, but i have no idea what you just said.
Me: That makes 2 of us...
Okay, so this is completely eluding me - maybe I'm completely missing it, but - how do I change the maximum post length in Mastodon 4.0.2?
The default is 500 chars, but I've used other instances with other limits, some upwards of 1500?
Do I need to get my hands dirty and mess around deep in the guts of the code, or is it possible from the Admin page?
