if it works fine so long as your data fits in ram and then gets tragically bad, it's the perfect technology for a tech startup

at this point i think hashes and uuids are all terrible for both admins and users and we should just actually give things names, and use those names both to locate things you want to watch and for administrative purposes. shocking, i know.

the tree of immutable packages idea was why i was fussing with ipfs, but if i never see another bigass table mapping sha hash to blob as long as I live i'll be fine

ideal fediverse video site
- mostly static files
- videos are all in immutable named containers that are easy to backup, verify, and archive

is there a double-sized eyeroll emoji like those sprites from smb3 world 4

microsoft's forbidden pringles

this setup is a little strange but i enjoy having the backend server firewalled off so nothing gets in or out except wireguard

don't need a real hairpin route if one side is ipv4 and the other is ipv6 🤔

github has way too much search engine weight... practically every term now leads to at least one place on there where someone just piped llm straight to disk

an ideal peertube configuration would be some sort of fediverse layer bolted onto an entirely read-only video mount that peertube cannot fuck up

peertube is like if a librarian hated books and when they saw your book was missing a page they would just shred it right in front of you and tell you to read a different book

i put this object storage patch up as a draft MR, https://framagit.org/framasoft/peertube/PeerTube/-/merge_requests/41

i thought it was just like a tom and jerry cartoon thing when the cat would go from zero to scrambling-at-full-speed-with-paws then hover in place for a second before actually getting traction... but tuco has been doing this regularly

if i have to add a client puzzle that burns some cpu to discourage the bots, maybe i can make it something fun

sometimes peertube is like do a zachtronics puzzle or your files will get corrupted

the bandwidth at linode might end up being a problem for diode zone? i think it'll be fine for the legit users if i am proactive about blocking bots and buggy peers, but the quotas are much smaller than i'm used to.

today i learned the 'tree' command line tool has HTML output https://approximate.life/tmp/

ugh it's nerve-wracking verifying this all in production but the download is going so much better now that it's trying to do 64 MB at a time instead of uh like ten gigs

i was absent mindedly whistling the other day and got way too surprised when someone recognized it and yelled PINK FLOYD at me across the street
