The fallout from the increasingly bleak computer security landscape SHOULD be: Fewer things connected to the Internet. That would be The Good Ending. No TVs, no thermostats, no god damn refrigerators. These things should never have been on the Internet in the first place.

#google gave itself permission to serve us personalized ads based on the information we have stored in gmail, google photos and google drive, by allowing gemini, which can be connected to all of these, to use that information for ads as well

undoing this requires clicking through at least 3 different settings menus:
- in gmail, in settings > general > turn off smart features everywhere
- from your google account settings, deactivate personalized search (1/2)

Was asked to make a selection of photo’s for the funeral of my old neighbour Johan who passed away last week. People often say “make photo’s and video’s of your loved ones while you still can”, but I’m reminded today that the problem is that when you make the photo’s… you’re often not in them. Make sure you have photo’s as a duo or a group, so you capture not just the person but the relationship ❤️

I made french toast this morning! And it actually turned out pretty good!

Pouring hot water into a big mug and the string on the tea bag pulls the card handle piece into the water

When a nobleman came in to the tavern and put a note on the board, the monster hunters went to check it out. Laughter erupted.

"A gazebo? Quick, someone get Eric!"

Then the bounty caught their attention.

"That's a lot of gold. Why?"

"This gazebo," the nobleman said, "was made by Baba Yaga."

"I was told," said the princess, "that the point of fairy tales is not to tell children dragons exist, but that they can be killed."

"Oh, absolutely!" said the dragon.

"You agree?"

"These rich, selfish, powerful, cruel beings that need killing, did you think they're literally dragons, princess?"

Occasionally people will ask me why I hate/hated D.A.R.E. so much.

1) They co-opted lions, the jagoffs

2) They were the ur-example of "don't suspect your parents, report them", and

3) Eh, see the video for the rest

something something ‘the top health insurer in the United States is
GoFundMe’

love that here in the US the phrase ‘your insurance has approved the treatment’ can mean ‘they said we’re allowed to give it to you but also they aren’t going to pay for, like, even part of it so have fun footing the bill yourself’

this post brought to you by receiving the $635 bill for a necessary iron infusion

on a related note uhh here’s my info again if anyone happens to be willing and able to help chip in towards that…

Love the adult who was explaining my pay-what-you-can system to a child and ended with “capitalism doesn’t normally allow for that.”

“I had a bad experience on Mastodon four years ago and will never give it another chance, but if I leave Bluesky, the platform I joined after Twitter turned to a Nazi-infested anti-queer hellscape four years ago, I will return to Twitter because I’m sure it’s just fine now.”

I am somehow only just now hearing about the Lufia 1 & 2 (port? remaster?) coming out next year aaaaah I love those games so much
