#India is witnessing an unprecedented youth and public protest asking the government to sack it's Chief Election Commissioner (#CEC), who had colluded with the ruling regime to disenfrachise millions of voters in the past elections by removing them from the electoral list in the name of the Special Intensive Revision (#SIR) of the voter's list, paving way for ruling #BJP to win elections.
Now students, the new political movement #CJP and #Left parties has been on protests for the past few days. A major protest gathering is planned at the National capital #Delhi today (10-Oct), and look at the way the government is reacting to it.
- #Internet shutdown for 24 hours in a 4Km radius where the protests are happening (Jantar Mantar).
- #Meta and other social media platforms have been asked to remove any content flagged by government agencies immediately (and they had been complying!)
- All trains reaching Delhi on saturday has been cancelled.
- 45 odd #DelhiMetro stations are closed.
- Entire city is barricaded and traffic is diverted at more than 30 points.
- 70 company of central reserve police is newly deployed to the capital.
- student activists across different parts of country has been arrested and detained.
India is going through an undeclared emergency and it's very clear that the government is looking at brutally suppressing all forms of resistance, originating from the suffering of common people caused by inflation, lack of jobs, crony capitalism, rampant corruption and a crumbling social order.
High time to join hands with the protesters to retain the idea of India.
