Labor Day, nothing deep to say. Besides asking if any of you got any leads or job openings or refs or whatever that aren’t the evil slop vortex of jobposting sites. You should send me a message if you’d like to help me even a lil bit. Thanks.
Laugh, it's Friday!

The feature request for "ability to disable replies" is now 7.5 years old. 😭
It's so fundamental that it is bonkers to me that it hasn't been implemented.
People on Github are saying we don't have it on Mastodon because it's not present in the ActivityPub protocol yet, so the AP feature request is here: https://github.com/w3c/activitypub/issues/319
I am writing this on Tusky, which is free software that someone had to write. It is running on an older Android phone, which someone had to assemble from components that other people had to make from raw materials that still other people had to produce.
You are reading this because it was transmitted via a sophisticated international communications system which someone had to design and someone else had to make from raw materials that someone else had to produce.
The electricity also had to be produced by someone, using machinery made by someone else.
Happy May Day, y'all. The world is nothing without our labour. Our masters know this; we should too.
it’s never not funny when men are horrified/perplexed by femmes reading smut in public tbh
When people ask, "How can I promote my art when the world is going to shit"
I hear that as, "How do I have the right to make art when the world is going to shit"
And...
We need art more than ever during such times. You need to be making art more than ever during such times. And promoting it is part of the process.
💭 we should have collective art galleries
the benefits of small indie hosting, while somewhat mitigating fragmentation across dozens/hundreds of tiny platforms
you could have a whole bunch of folks who share similar art styles or vibes under one digital roof, and it's much easier to moderate.
An upcoming @letterformarchive pop-up exhibition explores the legacy of Black scholarship in art, literature, and design.

“Stick to your little rituals that keep you sane and stop feeling guilty that they feel like survival, not thriving” is harder than it sounds but is maybe useful for somebody else to hear too.
The thing didn’t lose its power. You just are running on empty.
Kind is not the same as nice, and sometimes the kindest thing to do is to tell someone that what they are doing is wrong and that they need to cut that shit the fuck out.
"Above all, be motivated by love instead of fear."

Super excellent video: a developer who has been maintaining and patching the homebrew app Nintendont for years has made a video compiling all his work
Please admire my morning visitor's adorable scruffy bloomers. 🥹 #rxsarsparilla
Some chonky boys
'Frog, I am glad that you are here,' said Toad.
I had a visit from this feathery boy. Or maybe she's girl. Just sat patiently while I got very close for the photo. I suspect that they were waiting for a snack. Lots of people in my street like to feed the birds. But I had nothing suitable and there was no way I was sharing my hot buttered raisin toast.
