I've relaunched https://variablefonts.dev where I share my love and experiments with variable fonts. It's a mix of demos, articles, lists of fonts and the occasional special font and/or foundry spotlight.

🔥 New blog post! 🔥
I started writing a toot about @github’s new comment UI and it somehow turned into a whole 1.7k word article on simplicity, usability, their evolution, and the effects of poor UIs. 🤷🏽♀️
Minimalist Affordances: Making the right tradeoffs

Playbook for universal design: https://universaldesignguide.com/
A great place to find tools, methods, frameworks to include in your design process to build more inclusive and universal products and services. The methods can be filtered by phases of the design process (double diamond), types (warm-ups, etc). This also comes with tips to facilitate workshops and a set of "ability prompts" to help understand the impact of different disabilities when you design.
It feels unstoppable.
Big companies train expensive computers on your content with an explicit goal of not having to credit you, link to you, or even tell you. So search engines don't become a portal to the wider web, they become the one and only place you need to go, and monetize how they please.
It's all packaged up so that people see it and use it and go "well boy howdy that's awful neat". And it is neat. Just neat enough that no criticism of it will ever matter or effect the trajectory.
wrote a really stream-of-consciousness one about what i think makes a good website. target audience is mostly me, trying to look closer and more critically at my own process. :)
"Be kind and curious and humble when you’re working with folks, and be extra forgiving of their mistakes, so when the time inevitably comes that you make your own, there’s perhaps some goodwill in the vault for you."
This article by @henry is just so, so good:

We loved and we made love because they are not different, and we were one flesh and the flesh is life; and the sun beat down on us and said, it is good. More, it is the only good, because what is not living is dead, and there is no love among the grains of sand, or among the stars."
Ignacio and Eulalia too, they are gone now, the Colonel and Geronimo, the Governor, Hochstadter, even John, killed in a war; and their death diminished us but enlarged us too, and exalted us; we turned from death to each other, from nothing to everything, from the inescapable void to the earth and the fullness thereof.
A Covenant with Death

"It was an Antaean love, so to speak, that fed on the earth, on touch, on sunlight; that made whole again Keats’s weighty pearl. It fed even on death, because they all died,
One thing that’s a bit of a hassle with Mastodon is that you can’t immediately follow people on other instances.
You have to copy the username and search for it on the server that has your account.
To make this easier, I’ve created a little bookmarklet. Press it, and you’ll be taken to the same account as viewed from the masto host you are on.
GitHub Gist: https://gist.github.com/bramus/d8bce55dab1881cde18aa2169c66ac33
(Change the value of `MY_MASTO_HOST` in the code to your mastodon host –not URL– and you’re good to go)
If Mastodon succeeds, this will be the biggest blow to the old Internet rule that you cannot succeed without a catchy name.
