A #Microtonal #MusicTheory question: is there any research or experimentation about scales in 53-ET? For instance, here is a 13-note #scale in 53-ET (notes 0 to 52, 0 is tonic):
a=0 b=4 c=9 d=13 e=18 f=22 g=25 h=28 i=31 j=35 k=40 l=44 m=49 (a=53)
The differences, in steps, between notes, are 4 5 4 5 4 3 3 3 4 5 4 5 4, nicely symmetric.
How many nice-sounding #chords can be found in this scale? If one is allowed to bend some of the notes one or two steps (up or down), which other nice-sounding chords can be found?
Is there a site where I can assign arbitrary frequences to computer keyboard keys (53-ET if possible), and play some #tunes?

Corporate needs you to find the differences between this picture and this picture.

A semi-playable Doom demo I built for #FrontEndConf using CSS scroll timeline, a handful of checkboxes and has() selectors + a nice assist from image-rendering: pixelated.

Oh and no JS, as god intended.

I used the `light-dark` function quite a lot in recent demos. It makes implementing dark mode so easy!

Drop this in your base styles:
```
:root {
color-scheme: light dark;
}
```
Then, any time you define a color, do it like this…. to assign the first color to light mode, and the second to the dark mode.
```
color: light-dark(#000, #fff);
background-color: light-dark(#fff, #999);
```
This will save you from writing lots of conditional code inside `prefers-color-scheme` media queries.

This is the single best article on color spaces I have seen around. Well written, well informed and illustrated with interactive visualizations.
If you only read one, this should be it. Truly brilliant work @eeeps!

A provocative thought, and a question.

After meeting the #Uiua (https://www.uiua.org/) programming language, and identifying it as queer (in both gender and style), I started thinking about the intersection of #ProgrammingLanguage #design and #gender.

I feel that most programming languages are #male: the #imperative #paradigm (do this, then do that) matches the stereotype of "man commanding". Object-oriented #OO paradigm, same thing. #Functional paradigm resembles an assembly line, also stereotypically male.

I feel that some languages are #neutral: SQL and Prolog, both #declarative. But I know no #female language.

Do you see programming languages as gendered? If so, which ones you see as female, and why?

I completed #Day01 of #AdventOfCode #2023!

Part 1:
- Difficulty: 1/10
- Workout: 1/10

Part 2:
- Difficulty: 1/10
- Workout: 3/10

Done in a bit more than 3 hours. I hit two dead ends on part 2, believing that word -> digit substitution worked. Not so. Make sure that "twone" maps to 21. Loop from both ends of the string.

Congrats to @chrisdavidmills to land all the WebGPU reference docs on MDN! It's such a large API surface. 35 new interfaces with loads of members for a total of 200 new pages!

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/WebGPU_API

Having documented WebGL 1/2 and WebGL extensions over the years (44 interfaces), I can tell you that this stuff isn't very easy to write about if you aren't into graphics usually.

@effy Do you accept entries for https://genders.wtf/ here? If so, here's mine:

I'm an amateur #game #designer, mostly #board and pen-and-paper games, and one aborted #TTRPG system.

I'm an #atheist. Like #Cats over dogs. Fan of #Science. Like #History, #AlternateHistory and #WorldBuilding. Somewhat handy on #handicraft. Like #classical #music and old #MPB.

I have more projects than I can count. Several involve writing a #compiler or #interpreter; some can be classified as #algorithmicart or #creativecoding; several are math- and game- related; and some miscellaneous ones.

Avid #reader of #fanfiction, #scifi and #fantasy. Amateur #writer of the same, plus #nonfiction and #microfiction.

Mathematics is the love of my life. I graduated on Mathematics in 1993 - how time flies! - loved it, wanted more, but the need for a job and family issues prevented me from continuing.

I enjoy #abstraction: the #game #rules over the game, the #axiom system over the theorem, the #design over the building.

This led me to self-study on #logic, #set theory, #foundations of mathematics, and #categorytheory. I'm a novice on these.

I'm a #trans woman: female+neutral #gender, #amab, #lesbian and #aromantic. Realized my gender by late 2021.

You can call me either José (my original male name, repurposed as neutral) or Joana (my female name). I prefer female pronouns, and neutral ones when they leave alpha version.

I'm a computer programmer. Currently using #JavaScript, and programming only as a hobby since I was "promoted" to bureucrat at my job, some years ago.

As it's custom nowadays, here is my #introduction. I did a lengthy one in my other instance, here:

This one will be shorter, and with CWs to not clutter the timeline.

Sou novata nisso.
