AI is only as smart as its user.

If you have to complain about AI tools' stupidity, look in the mirror first: the stupid could be there.

Sometimes political decisions are quite ridiculous. All planar projections introduce distortions of some type. It is pure and simple geometry. One has just to decide what feature to retain. The Mercator projection was born for navigation, in order to retain angles for compasses. It is NOT wrong; it is simply the best for some purposes.

To complete the concept, while servers generally retain IPs often for security and/or debugging purposes, profiling is totally another beast, and very few services are able to use such information within recommending systems or other machine learning engines. One of the few is surely Google, but most of the hyperscalers can, and probably already do.

It is not trivial understanding if/how this information is relevant.

Most users currently navigate by using dynamic IPs and often CGNAT, so that in practice, it is tracked the network (and country) a user belongs to, IFF they are not using a VPN/proxy. Such information is already spread among millions of server logs in any case, often linked to specific credentials and IDs.

Good explanation. Standards can save the Internet, as also @timbl thinks.
The point is: will the distributed protocols and standards be enough to win over companies' interests and the general apathy of average users?

"This is what it looks like when an OEM stops treating Linux support as an afterthought and starts treating it as engineering. Not a checkbox on a spec sheet. Not a “works with Linux” footnote. Actual kernel work, actual upstream contributions, actual collaboration with the people building the tools developers use every day and helping the Linux community as a whole."

Kudos to #Dell folks and well done

A giant back step. How thinking that security by hiding could be a security solution and live happily. 😎

In the near future, there are very few possibilities for the sustainability of the AI infrastructure: a significant prices increase, a significant increase in the number of customers, or a significant reduction in infrastructure operational costs. For me, this is quite evident, and I would expect such changes in the next 2-3 years. Even possibly a combination of all such factors, indeed. There's no free lunch in economics: someone will have to pay the fee, sooner or later.

Finally, #haunt entered #debian main archive.

*Be the change you want to see happen instead of trying to change everyone else."

Well, I have to share this thought. Maybe it is a daydream but someone has to follow that path, else nothing will change for sure.
That's the reason for my indie tech choices in years, because the tech savvy has to do that.

Time to celebrate one of the longest-lived programming languages of all time. If you love #functionalProgramming and the #lisp languages family, this could be a nice gift for yourself.

One aspect to consider is that self-hosting, as well as non-mainstream options, do not offer the same level of service as one might expect. Simply, be redundant or ready to work around, just in case.

The damn Salesforce CEO did not read this post of mine.

AI needs to be used with the required awareness of its limits and a grain of salt. Damn it, it is not rocket science, dudes. It is a tool, not the damn #silverbullet

Add this to the will of selling reconditioned boxes with Windows 11 which renders almost all pre-2019 perfectly unusable. There are literally tons of old computers that can run perfectly fine with Linux, BSD and old Windows out there.

We all, as a FOSS community, have hoped so for ages. Until today, I have seen very few concrete actions to promote *and sustain* FOSS solutions. Damn it, put the money where the f* mouths are, dudes.

About #enshittification of IT systems, I had to fly with two #Lufthansa intercontinental Airbus A3x0 airplanes in the last week. The #UX and stability with the older infotainment was way better than with the newer one. WTF?
