Wildfires in Ireland and beyond -

The fire in Co Wicklow has been extinguished, but areas continue to 'smoulder'.

The blaze at Sleivenamon Co Tipperary is now in its sixth day and firefighters continue to attempt to control it.

I'm aware of two wildfires in Scotland, one near Totland on the IOW as well as those in France, Spain and Canada.

Music is one of the few things that keeps me sane(ish) in this fucked up world.

As well as working on my own album of songs, which is almost ready for release, I'm fortunate to be able to regularly sit in with some lovely local musicians at a weekly blues session.

Although piano is my main instrument, I also play acoustic fretless bass for fun.
If money were no object, I'd buy an upright bass instead.

Nothing beats the experience of playing live music in front of an appreciative audience.
Even if it is in a less than salubrious, but also very safe bar.

We do a range of songs ranging from Mississippi delta blues, Jump Blues, Chicago style blues to some jazz standards such as 'Georgia' and 'Summertime'.

I've just finished reading 'Reaper Man' by Terry Pratchett.

I have to say it's the first one of the discworld series that has left me feeling quite ambivalent about it.

Yes, I know the whole trolley thing is supposedly a parody of 'Aliens'.

However as a complete read, I found it quite disjointed and somewhat pedestrian at times.
