Oh, so the US is doing everything it can to strengthen the Russian economy by buying diesel from the orcs? While at the same time doing everything they can to weaken support for Ukraine? What an utter shit country that has turned out to be. Fuck all you Americans who allow and support this. Fuck you. Get out there on your streets and fix your fucking shithole country, you’re ruining the world for everyone.
To contrast, when I file bugs with JetBrains' tools I get a real human responding usually within a day asking for more information or offering a solution. I can also see the status of bug reports. It's such a nice experience and makes me feel useful and valued when I report bugs.
Apple does none of this. Their entire modus operandi is to humiliate developers every chance they get and make us feel happy we're even allowed to develop for their glorious platforms.
So much on Catalyst works weirdly or not at all, leading to lots of stupid workarounds for things that should just work.
Could I report a bug about this? No, not really. It works well in trivial happy cases and I'm not spending a week tearing down my app to get a minimal sample that shows the error just to have it be ignored by Apple's developers. Filing bugs for Apple's stuff is such a shitshow.
Weird crashes on Catalyst when using .environment to inject dependencies. Some views (sheets in particular) just don’t have the environment objects even though all their ancestors have them. I use them in hundreds of views and the iPhone has no issues to access them. Clearly Catalyst is extremely buggy here.
What works is to declare the environment objects as options in the views, but that's an extra hassle.
Would be nice if Apple actually fixed some of their bugs.
Both passed review in about 20 hours. Quite unexpected. I needed something to go my way and not having to wait 10 days is pretty great. Now I’ll get to see if my S3 based storage system works or not.
Months with most days like this is what motivates me.
Or if we're being honest, most days I wonder why I bother. My niche just happens to be one where people aren't prepared to pay for digital tools.
Phew, this was one epic version. Always when I thought I had everything done something new popped up.
I started using Obsidian because it was easy and fast to jot down some quick notes about my projects. But if it takes me a minute to even get the cursor to the correct place I might as well code up something own instead.
Meh, the latest version of Obsidian has done something horrible with the editing functionality. Previously editing a note was, well, normal. You clicked somewhere and the cursor was set there. Arrow navigation worked ok.
Now clicking some text usually moves the cursor somewhere totally random. Arrow navigation skips entire paragraphs and is totally random. It's horribly frustrating to even get to the place I want to edit.

I've been working on @ClankerAinter, a moderation bot that detects and auto suspends bot accounts. Of all the things I am doing the single most effective is banning throw away email address domains as well as spammer domains.
Admins and Mods should block
dropmail.me, onionmail.com, mail2tor.co, any.pink, 387654.com, javadmin.com, ilands.app
I would appreciate a boost so more people can see this.
Hetzner has had a rough day today. Multiple outages on the VPS I use. A couple of days ago their S3 storage was down for a long time. Maybe moving my stuff there isn’t such a good idea? I need something in Europe that’s more powerful than what Digital Ocean gives me and also definitely not American.
“Of course it’s a #genocide. We would shoot at anyone, children and women too”.
“Even if they didn’t pose any danger?”
“Of course, none of them had any weapons! I think I saw an armed Palestinian only once, but we used to kill hundreds of them every day”
“We were fine. We were happy. It was fun. It was like a videogame”
“What do you mean? Killing was fun? Including children? Even if they weren’t armed? Whole families?”
“There was a psychologist. We could talk to him if we needed. But we didn’t need it because we were fine”
“Mine is an elite unity. We would identify the buildings to blow up while families were still in. We destroyed whole neighbourhoods. We destroyed the whole north of the Gaza strip because there should have been no houses to get back to. We set on fire memories, pictures, books, everything. We would fill up houses with gas and set them on fire, or we would gather all the pillows in the middle of the living room and set them on fire. Wool burns very well. In a minute the whole apartment was on fire. Mine was a unit made of left-wing youngsters. From Tel Aviv’s higher classes. We don’t hate the Arabs. We did it because it had to be done”.
“The settlers, the crazy ones, those who believe in a crooked God and do strange things like not bathing or reproduce like rabbits: those perhaps hate the Arabs. But we progressive left-wing youngsters aren’t like that: we only did what we were told to do and then we’d smoke a cigarette or come back to have an aperitif together”
“I asked my supervisor: ‘What do you think of what we’re doing here?’ He told me: ‘It’s right. You must just trust the system’”
“We only do what the Israeli society tells us to do. If they tell us that Gaza must be wiped out, then we must wipe it out”
“I went to Poland to visit concentration camps. I keep believing that Nazis were Nazis. But I don’t know what I am”
Interviews to Israeli soldiers published in the NAZA documentary
Best would be if we could just adjust the MX records for our domains, set up mailboxes for the accounts on each domain as well as a few aliases. Doesn't sound too complicated, but find a place that lets us do this without having loads of separate "services" isn't easy.
Preferably nothing related to the US, as we can't trust them at all anymore.
Been looking at Fastmail and it has a nice family plan. Not sure that would handle mails to our own domains though. The docs are a bit lacking here. We couldn't care less about having foo@fastmail.com addresses, nobody wants an address at a generic hosting site.
Been looking into consolidating our family email accounts under one provider. Currently we have a couple web hotels that also host the email, but it's a bit of a mess to keep track of everything. We have a couple private email addresses on our own domain and also a couple company domains with a handful of addresses in total. All very low volume.
Would be nice to have them all one hosted on the same platform.
Does Android have something like “Sign in with Apple”? Not some oauth horrible mess that’s impossible to get right, but a clean and simple API you can trust and which delivers your app a stable and globally unique user identifier?
I think the only way to actually get some feature in the App Store is to be friends with someone at Apple, be from California (and of course be American), be a well known celebrity rockstar developer or be a multinational megacorp. The rest of us? We can get fucked.
First time in years that I think my code base has improved a lot. When I first tested the observation stuff some years ago it was... not great. But by now it seems to do what it should do. Got rid of all Combine code too.
Now, I feel like it would be about time for Apple to feature my app prominently somewhere. I've never got any help from them during these past 10 years that my app has been available, regardless of my much I pay in fees and shares of my hard earned revenue.
Phew. Did a couple of days of epic refactoring of my by now quite old code base for my app. I had over 50 ObservableObject and hundreds of ObservedObjects, a few massive God singletons and so much ugly stuff. Cleaned up everything and moved to the new observation framework, got rid of all the singleton accesses (most accessed now via the environment) and cleaned up quite a few crusty old data models. Time extremely well spent.
Folks, does anyone have any work? It's becoming urgent for me to find more work now. I'm trying. I need at least €1500 by the end of next week. I am going to try and get a loan today, but I'm not sure if that will even be possible. I'll do software dev, embedded dev, simple PCBs, QA of software, Small part CAD Designs, pixel art, take minutes of meetings. Anything please.
