Days since last API incident: 0
A colleague quietly changed the behavior of an API and broke mobile apps in production without anybody noticing until I did today.
"Whoops, now we can't fully revert the changes because the frontend in production is already relying on the new behavior."
Why do mobile apps always have to pay the price and get the blame?

Debates about the usage of AI coding agents sometimes make me think of gun control debates.
I have no doubts that a good developer with an AI agent will do a better job than a bad developer with an AI agent, but in both cases the usage itself is unethical, will lower your vigilance and increase your chances of shooting yourself in the foot.

@stefano We should stop calling cloud-dependent devices "smart" (smart thermostat, smart doorbell, smart oven, ...).
If the intelligence is not in the box, they're just "puppet" devices.
CSS is DOOMed!
I've build DOOM in CSS and every wall, floor, barrel, and imp is a div, positioned in 3D space using CSS transforms.
Try it out! But... not every browser can handle it. This is taking the browser to its limit. Chrome has some issues. Safari too. Bugs will be filed.

🎂 Happy 23rd birthday, Firefox
(Firefox 1.0 was released on November 9, 2004 but the first version of the thing that lead up to it – Phoenix 0.1 – was released on September 23, 2002)
This is excellent. 👌🏼
“Open source, the thing that drives the world, the thing Harvard says has an economic value of $8.8 trillion.
Most of it is one person.
And […] not one of those single person projects have the proper amount of resources they need. If you want to talk about possible risks to your supply chain, a single maintainer that’s grossly underpaid and overworked.”
Yuuup. Baffling how so many companies depend on open source software without funding it, ever.

Fellow Android developers using Google Play, how is your edge-to-edge refactoring summer going?
I'm mostly done but FOSDEM Companion will have to wait until next year.

Compared to Compose Android-only built-in HTML support:
- It supports color transparency
- It supports all named CSS colors
- It supports colors for all inline HTML tags
- Colors can be disabled
- Parsing is ~ 5x faster.
Version 1.1.0 of my library HTML Converter for Compose Multiplatform is now available!
It includes optional colored text support and targets all previously missing platforms: Javascript, WASM and native Mac OS.

So! Is anyone up for participating in CSS Naked Day on April 9?
I haven't participated yet but it seems like a good exercise to check the HTML for a day? :D
Amazon will remove the ability to download the ebooks for Kindle at the end of the month. So if you ever close your amazon account, you'll no longer be able to access the books you had bought.
Let's fix that:
1. https://github.com/treetrum/amazon-kindle-bulk-downloader
2. https://calibre-ebook.com/download
3. https://github.com/noDRM/DeDRM_tools/releases
The bit you'll need is the kindle serial (from amazon's site), then you can convert to epub

HTML converter for Compose Multiplatform 1.0.1 released:
It uses the new LinkAnnotation from Compose 1.7 to make links automatically clickable and opens them in the platform's default browser.
It's also twice as fast and supports more tags compared to using the new AnnotatedString.fromHtml() on Android.

The video of my talk at Droidcon Berlin about Advanced Android App Shrinking Techniques is now online:

Apologies for not speaking more fluently in the beginning; I was stressed by technical issues which delayed the talk.

It's wild to me that just using Google Fonts (the hosted-by-Google way) immediately makes you in violation of GDPR.

You can always self-host though: https://gwfh.mranftl.com/fonts
